Race 1 Lyndhurst Stud Handicap (Fillies & Mares Class 4) 1350 Metres
Stewards Report extract : When the pace steadied approaching the 1000m, JEZZAWIN (C. Munce) had to be restrained off the heels of MACKEYE (K. Ashton). PAPAL JOY (M. Cahill), which was following, also had to be checked in this incident. Following this, PAPAL JOY raced ungenerously in the middle stages.
GONDOLA GIRL (J. Holder) hung in under pressure over the final 300m.
Near the 250m, JEZZAWIN (C. Munce) was disappointed for a run between JOYEUX JOY (D. Green) and ROCKWEST (J. Byrne), which was taken in by GONDOLA GIRL.
PAPAL JOY was inclined to lay in under prssure in the home straight.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards were asked to consider an application from the connections of PAPAL JOY to have that mare be declared a non runner on the basis that it had been denied a fair start. Evidence was taken from jockey M. Cahill, trainer B. Wakefield, starter M. Henderson and assistant starter P. Cousins, and the relevant patrol films were also viewed by the parties. Subsequently, stewards established on the evidence before them that shortly before the start was effected, PAPAL JOY, which had been fractious in the barriers, raised its head and as the start was effected moved it towards and partly into the adjoining barrier stall. In all the circumstances, stewards were of the view opinion, based on Australian Rule 134A, that PAPAL JOY had been afforded a fair start and declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.

Stewards Report extract : KYLIE EM (D. Browne) raced ungenerously in the early stages and near the 800m, after being brushed by TAIL AND ALL (B. El-Issa), shifted in and made contact with the running rail.
After passing the 600m, MONTREUX JAZZA (K. Pope) had to be steadied when tightened for room between JITTER JUICE (M. Cahill) and MISS ORIELLE (R. Wiggins), which shifted out. R. Wiggins, rider of MISS ORIELLE, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
MONTREUX JAZZ (K. Pope) raced greenly approaching and rounding the home turn, and shortly after entering the home straight, shifted out away from MISS ORIELLE and became unbalanced.
K. Pope, rider of MONTREUX JAZZ, explained that after being tightened for room at the 600m, the filly was inclined to race greenly for some distance following this incident and, in his view, will be better suited in races over longer distances than today's event.
Approaching the 100m, LITTLE WHITE HORSE (D. Griffin) had to be eased to avoid the heels of MISS ORIELLE, which was taken in by DANE PRINCESS (L. Cassidy), which shifted in whilst being ridden along. L. Cassidy, rider of DANE PRINCESS, was severely reprimanded.
Trainer B. Mahon was advised that DELAGO WATERS would be required to compete satisfactorily in an official trial before racing again for what stewards deemed to be an unsatisfactory performance. A post-race veterinary examination of DELAGO WATERS, which trailed the field throughout, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Stewards Report extract : KNUTE (L. Cassidy), which was slow to begin, was hampered shortly after the start when tightened for room between BLUE GINGER (C. Munce) and MARKEDLY (B. Looker), which was taken in by TOP IT OFF (W. Clasohm), which shifted in.
TAIL AND ALL (B. El-Issa) blundered on jumping away.
KNUTE made the turn near the 800m awkwardly and shifted out. A short distance later, KNUTE shifted in, momentarily tightening the running of NOBLE STORM (O. Turpin).
KNUTE was inclined to lay out from the 700m until rounding the home turn.
Approaching the home turn, NOBLE STORM was held up and unable to improve.
L. Cassidy, rider of KNUTE, explained that after being checked shortly after the start the gelding raced very greenly throughout and proved difficult to ride. A post-race veterinary examination of KNUTE, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Near the 900m, PEELINGS (L. Cassidy) had to be steadied when tightened for room between KORVEY CHOICE (J. Stanley), which shifted in slightly, and TAISUN (C. Munce), which after being steadied off the heels of REE "N' TRAV, shifted out.
ONAROHL (S. Galloway) raced greenly in the early stages and made the turn at the 800m awkwardly and shifted out.
Stewards sought an explanation jockey J. Holder regarding the riding tactics adopted on HEIR EXPRESS rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight where he remained to the inside of the weakening KORVEY CHOICE and was held up for some distance. J. Holder explained that he was reluctant to shift to the outside of KORVEY CHOICE as he felt he would have to cover extra ground and he was of the view that a run to the inside was available between LUCKY HOFFA and KORVEY CHOICE, however LUCKY HOFFA did shift out slightly under pressure and as a result he had to shift to the inside of that runner to improve. J. Holder added that HEIR EXPRESS worked to the finish line fairly and, in his view, will appreciate races of 1400m or longer and on a bigger track. Stewards noted the explanation.
KORVEY CHOICE lost its off fore plate in running.
Following this event, the track rating was downgraded to Slow 6. It was further downgraded to Slow 7 prior to Race 5.

Stewards Report extract : Stewards acceded to a request from trainer D. Schmidt to lift the slow track bar on THE ROMAN.
L. Cassidy, rider of the 2nd placegetter, SISTAGIRL, exercised his right to view the film of the race in the straight to ascertain if he had grounds against the winner. J. Byrne, rider of the 4th placegetter, DOUBLE HONOUR, also exercised his right to view the film in the straight to acertain if had grounds to lodge a protest against the winner, JYPSIERE. After both riders viewed the films, they declined to proceed with protests and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge's placings.
