Stewards Report Extract : Prior to the commencement of Race 1 all riders held a meeting in the jockeys' room with Mr D. O'Keefe, AJA representative, and Ms P. O'Neill, QJA representative. As a result of this meeting, the start of Race 1 was delayed and race start times were amended as follows: Race 1 - 12.22 p.m.; Race 2 - 12.57 p.m.
Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless regarding the performance of GOD BLESS US. G. Colless explained that the filly had a tendency to overrace in the early stages and for some distance approaching and passing the 900m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of MISS LEIBERT (P. Hammersley). This, in his opinion, may have been as a result of racing in blinkers for the first time. G. Colless further stated that after being held up rounding the home turn he attempted to shift out in the early part of the straight to obtain clear running and as a result he made heavy contact with COLLECTOR (J. Holder) and that following this GOD BLESS US became unbalanced and lost momentum. G. Colless was of the view that this was the reason for the filly not finishing the race off as expected.

After passing the 500m NARCELO (B. Stewart) had to be eased when tightened for room between EXTREME MOVER and HEATHEN CHEMISTRY (J. Wood), which shifted out when not fully clear. Apprentice J. Wood was issued with a reprimand under AR. 137(a) and advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.
At the entrance to the straight HEATHEN CHEMISTRY was inconvenienced when FORTY THIRTY (M. Hellyer) shifted out slightly.
Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice T. Huxham, the rider of EXTREME MOVER, for the reasons he lost several lengths after occupying a trailing position behind DEEMED (G. Colless) progressing into the back straight. T. Huxham explained that EXTREME MOVER became unbalanced when racing in restricted room to the inside of VALERA approaching the 1000m and following that he was asking EXTREME MOVER to improve to the inside of VALERA in an attempt to make ground, however the gelding was not responding to his riding. Trainer P. Sexton advised that he had instructed apprentice Huxham to ride EXTREME MOVER in a handy position with cover if possible and after improving into the race from the 500m he was disappointed in the finishing effort of the gelding over the final 300m. Stewards advised apprentice T. Huxham that in their view he had erred from after passing the 1000m until the 700m by not attempting to ride EXTREME MOVER more vigorously in an attempt to make ground to the inside of VALERA and ultimately trail DEEMED, which would have prevented CASH 'N' STYLE (R. Wiggins) moving to the rail in front of his mount after leaving the 700m. Stewards were mindful of apprentice Huxham's inexperience riding at metropolitan meetings and did not feel that his riding of EXTREME MOVER was culpable under the rules.
A post-race veterinary examination of SIMMERING revealed no significant abnormalities other than that the horse had shifted its off hind plate.

R. Wiggins pleaded guilty to a further charge of careless riding in that near the 150m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of JOYEUX JOY (G. Colless), resulting in G. Colless having to take hold of his mount and take evasive action to avoid the heels of FIGASAURUS. R. Wiggins' licence to ride in races was suspended for periods of 7 and 8 meetings relative to each charge, with the terms of suspension to be served concurrently and to commence at midnight on Saturday, 19 March, and expire at midnight on Friday, 1 April 2011.

A post-race veterinary examination of HELIDECK, which compounded badly over the final 250m, revealed the gelding to have a slower than normal post-race recovery rate. Trainer G. Ryan's stable representative was advised that HELIDECK will require a veterinary clearance as well as trialling to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next start.

KNEEL AND RAISE overraced in the early stages and for some distance passing the 800m had to be restrained from the heels of HEART OF THE CITI.
For some distance passing the 800m CHANGING EYES, which had a tendency to overrace, was placed awkwardly at the heels of HELIDECK (G. Colless) and had to be steadied on several occasions.
A post-race veterinary examination of HELIDECK, which compounded badly over the final 250m, revealed the gelding to have a slower than normal post-race recovery rate. Trainer G. Ryan's stable representative was advised that HELIDECK will require a veterinary clearance as well as trialling to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next start.
