Stewards Report extract : Approaching the 600m, JOYFUL LADY (B. Looker) overraced at the heels of SECOND ATTEMPT (J. Taylor) and shifted out.

PEPPSEELON (N. Thomas) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn when caught behind the tiring SECOND ATTEMPT (J. Taylor), and when endeavouring to obtain clear running near the 350m, shifted out and made contact with JOYFUL LADY (B. Looker) on a number of occasions. 

Stewards questioned connections of SECOND ATTEMPT regarding the poor performance of the horse, which after leading yielded ground and finished at the rear of the field. Jockey J. Taylor confirmed his disappointment with the performance and stated that the mare was under pressure from the 600m and, in his opinion, failed to run out the 2040 metres of today's event. Trainer P. Duff also confirmed his disappointment with the performance of the horse and whilst noting the horse pulled up in a somewhat distressed state, which he felt was caused by today's heat, he nevertheless agreed with the assessment of the jockey that the mare failed to run out the distance of the race, and that it would be his intention to review the racing program of SECOND ATTEMPT with a view to placing the horse in races of shorter distances than today's event. The veterinary surgeon reported that SECOND ATTEMPT had a poor post-race recovery. Mr Duff undertook to report to stewards any abnormality with SECOND ATTEMPT which may have had a bearing on today's performance.

MEAT HEAD (B. Looker) began awkwardly and a short distance after the start shifted in, making contact with the running rail.

INVENTORY (L. Cassidy) overraced in the early stages and near the 900m had to be steadied off the heels of EXCELLANTES (B. Stewart) when that horse crossed to the lead. 

Near the 350m, BROKACANON (J. Taylor) had to be steadied off the heels of INVENTORY (L. Cassidy), which shifted out abruptly.

Stewards Report extract : ANNIE ROCKS (J. Wood) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with DON'T TELL RHONDA (K. Ashton).

Approaching the 800m, DANAH ROSE (S. Galloway) was tightened for room when racing to the inside of SHOWHAMA (M. Cahill), which shifted in. M. Cahill, rider of SHOWHAMA, was reprimanded and advised to allow greater room when shifting ground. 

Nearing the 500m, THE GINGERMEISTER (B. Stewart) shifted out after improving on to the heels of DANAH ROSE (S. Galloway).

A. Spinks, rider of LADY GAINSFORD, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 300m he allowed his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of VIPERA GOLD (M. Palmer), resulting in that horse contacting LADY GAINSFORD, resulting in becoming unbalanced and shifting out, making contact with DON'T TELL RHONDA (K. Ashton), which also became unbalanced. ZAMBONI, which was trailing, was inconvencienced and obliged to alter course as a result of this incident. A. Spinks was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 24 November and to expire at midnight, 3 December. 

Near the 100m, VIPERA GOLD (M. Palmer) was crowded for room when racing between LADY GAINSFORD (A. Spinks) and ANNIE ROCKS (J. Wood), both of which shifted ground. A. Spinks, rider of LADY GAINSFORD, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Stewards Report extract : Trainer L. Gough was questioned regarding MACEDON being presented late to the enclosure. After considering his explanation, stewards considered there were mitigating circumstances and no action was taken. 

STREETS AWAY (S. Seamer) began slowly, resulting in the horse losing valuable ground. 


DUAL CODE broke down in the near foreleg near the 1100m. DUAL CODE was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds.

Stewards Report extract : DIABA (J. Byrne), which was initially slow to begin, was tightened for room shortly after the start when racing between COMZELITA (B. Looker) and RAPT IN RHYTHM (N. Evans), which was taken in by POINTE DANCER (R. Wiggins). 

MEDECIS GEM (B. Hull) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with TEA ROSES (J. Wood).

Passing the 500m, TEA ROSES (J. Wood) was tightened for room when racing between BILLIE BLUE GUM (L. Cassidy), which shifted in, and POINTE DANCER, which shifted out slightly. As a result of this incident, Jockey L. Cassidy was issued with a reprimand for allowing his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear.

Near the 900m, POINTE DANCER (R. Wiggins) was crowded for room by TEA ROSES (J. Wood), which shifted in. 

When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of MARTHA'S VINEYARD as compared to its unplaced runs this campaign, trainer D. Murphy explained that the mare races best when able to lead and at its 2 previous starts has missed the start and as a result was unable to obtain the leading position. He added that the horse's fitness had improved as a result of the 2 previous starts. The explanation was noted.

Stewards Report extract : Apprentice J. Wood was cautioned for failing to claim his full allowance on JYPSIERE. In considering the matter, stewards took into account mitigating circumstances. 

SEEK AND FIND (M. Hellyer) reared at the start, resulting in the horse losing valuable ground. 

Near the 800m, CANADIAN JOY (S. Bogenhuber) was tightened for room and lost its position when racing between ISAIDIAM (M. Heagney), SPLENDID HAYIL (J. Taylor), BRIGADOON JACK (P. Hammersley) and JYPSIERE (J. Wood). After taking evidence from the riders concerned, stewards charged apprentice J. Wood with a contravention of Rule 137(a) for being careless in allowing his mount to shift in. At the request of J. Wood, stewards adjourned the inquiry to 10 am at the offices of Racing Queensland to enable his master to be in attendance. 

CANADIAN JOY (S. Bogenhuber) was inclined to overrace and hung out in the middle stages, and approaching the home turn had to be steadied off the heels of SPLENDID HAYIL (J. Taylor). 

Correct weight was delayed to afford stewards the opportunity to view the film of the start of the race and ascertain the reason for STATE OF BEING refusing to begin. After taking evidence from the starter, barrier attendant and rider apprentice A. Butler, stewards were satisfied that the gelding stood in the barriers of its own accord when the start was effected and as such was afforded the opportunity of a fair start. Subsequently correct weight was semaphored on the Judge's placings. Trainer K. Schweida was advised that he must provide 2 further barrier certificates for the gelding, one of which must be obtained in a official trial, prior to its next race start. 

Stewards questioned M. Hellyer regarding the performance of SEEK AND FIND. M. Hellyer stated that the horse after beginning awkwardly was never comfortable and inclined to hang out for the majority of the event. Stewards will interview trainer K. Wood regarding the matter at the earliest opportunity.
