STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT : Trainer B. Smith advised that STRATERCASTER (S. Galloway) will be ridden in a forward position today if possible. The horse was ridden accordingly.
LADY CROWN (J. Wood) was slow to begin.
When the pace steadied after passing the 800m GEBLITZT (R. Wiggins) commenced to overrace and had to be restrained to avoid the heels of CURRENT AFFAIR (D. Browne).
Apprentice M. Hellyer was issued with a reprimand under AR. 137(a) for allowing MARINE GARDENS to shift out under riding over the final 300m which resulted in UNICA BAHAYA (G. Colless) being taken wider on the track.
When asked to explain the performance of STRATERCASTER, rider S. Galloway stated that the mare travelled well behind the leaders and when placed under pressure shortly after entering the home straight did respond to his riding until approaching the 200m where it weakened from that point. S. Galloway added that on pulling up STRATERCASTER did make an abnormal respiratory noise and in his opinion it may have choked down during the race. A post-race veterinary examination of STRATERCASTER revealed no abnormality.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT : STAR OF AMY (K. Forrester), which struck the running rail entering the track from the mounting yard, was examined behind the barriers by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.
STAR OF AMY and OSCAR THE GREAT (B. El-Issa) came together at the start.
ELEGANCE DRAGON (R. Goltz) overraced in the early part of the back straight after reaching the position outside the leader leaving the 1200m.
After passing the 1200m TOPPING (J. Wood), which was overracing, shifted out taking STAR OF AMY out on to the hind quarters of FALVEROSA (M. Hellyer).
At the entrance to the home straight TOPPING shifted out to obtain clear running taking BELLA SEA (J. Taylor) and FALVEROSA wider on the track.
Over the concluding stages STAR OF AMY shifted in and brushed JAZZ MUSIC (N. Yamada).

Wood was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted on TOPPING in the early stages whereby he positioned the horse from a trailing position one wide behind BELLA SEA to a position on the rails behind OSCAR THE GREAT. STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT : A short distance after the start SNIPOFFTHEOLDBLOCK (J. Byrne) had to be steadied when tightened for room between ONAROHL (M. Hellyer), which shifted outwards, and PICCOLO DYNASTY (L. Cassidy), which shifted in slightly.
ANDRE'S CHOICE (R. Wiggins) raced wide rounding the first turn.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SNIPOFFTHEOLDBLOCK, rider J. Steawrds Report Extract : RAKHMANOVA, (J. Taylor), which was very fractious in the barriers, was declared a late scratching at 3.28 p.m. by stewards acting on veterinary advice. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on RAKHMANOVA be refunded with no other alterations to betting. Trainer G. Hutchesson was advised that he must obtain two further barrier certificates for RAKHMANOVA.
MORNING AFTER (P. Hammersley) began awkwardly and lost ground.
GOLD SHEARS (C. Munce) and VALERA (R. Wiggins) were tightened for room on jumping away between TIT TAT TOOEE (S. Galloway) and MAID OF FALVELON (G. Colless), both of which shifted ground.
TIT TAT TOOEE overraced in the early stages and approaching the 800m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of TEIFI VALLEY (S. Scriven). SIR STANLEY (A. Spinks), which was following, had to be checked severely to avoid the heels of TIT TAT TOOEE. As a result of this, VALERA, FLYING ARCHANGEL (B. Stewart), GOLD SHEARS, FORTUNA SECUNDA (B. El-Issa), BOOBOISIE (J. Holder) and LIFTING BENNY (L. Rolls) all had to be checked.
After passing the 100m SIR STANLEY shifted out under pressure taking GOLD SHEARS out on to FLYING ARCHANGEL, which was inconvenienced. A. Spinks, the rider of SIR STANLEY, was reprimanded under AR. 137(a) and advised to show more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances in future.
TIT TAT TOOEE was held up and unable to obtain clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200m.
MAID OF FALVELON lost its off hind plate in running.
A post-race veterinary examination of TIT TAT TOOEE revealed the filly had sustained a laceration to its near hind leg, consistent with being galloped on.
As B. Stewart was stood down from remaining engagements by the club doctor following his ride in this event, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Stewards Report Extract : Stewards permitted trainer L. Mayfield-Smith to race LOOPED, which last raced in Victoria with a tongue tie, with a tongue control bit.
HUFF AND PUFF (Michael Palmer) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in inconveniencing PROST (G. Colless).
SPACE GATER (C. Munce) was a little slow to begin.
Approaching the 800m CONVICTOR (M. Speers) commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of GALLANT HAWK (J. Wood) CONVICTOR then shifted out resulting in LOOPED (K. Fuji) being taken out on to the hind quarters of HUFF AND PUFF. As a result of this contact HUFF AND PUFF shifted in slightly, further hampering LOOPED. CONVICTOR continued to overrace in the middle stages.
After passing the 500m CONVICTOR shifted out resulting in HUFF AND PUFF being taken out and making contact with RAPID LEICA JACKO (R. Wiggins).
Approaching the 300m HUFF AND PUFF was tightened for room between RAPID LEICA JACKO and CONVICTOR which was taken out by GALLANT HAWK, which after being held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight was shifting out in an attempt to obtain clear running.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CONVICTOR, apprentice M. Speers explained that the gelding settled in a handy position, however was disappointing and failed to finish the race off under his riding over the final 400m. A post-race veterinary examination of CONVICTOR revealed no significant findings.
