RIVER STREET (B. Looker) raced wide throughout.

When the pace slowed leaving the 1200m SHOOTING SCENE commenced to overrace and did so until passing the 900m.

LUCKY LUNA (T. Huxham) raced wide until assuming the position in the lead near the 900m.

MR ARMSTRONG laid when placed under pressure in the home straight.

Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce in respect to the seemingly disappointing performance of PENNY LOUISE. C. Munce stated that although he rode the mare aggressively in the early stages he did not have the necessary speed to lead. He added that PENNY LOUISE was further pressured when LUCKY LUNA improved around the field to take up the lead near the 900m. C. Munce explained that PENNY LOUISE failed to finish the race off when placed under pressure from the 400m, but he attributed this to the work the mare had to do throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination of PENNY LOUISE revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer R. Stephenson concurred with rider C. Munce's comments and added that PENNY LOUISE was abnormally fractious in the mounting yard and proceeding to the barriers today. Mr Stephenson was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for PENNY LOUISE prior to its next start.

Stewards questioned apprentice J. Wood regarding the riding tactics he adopted on THUNDER LANE, which was ridden forward in the early stages to the leading position, which was in contrast to its most recent starts. Apprentice Wood stated that he was instructed to ride THUNDER LANE in a handy position with cover, but after beginning well he rode aggressively for a short distance to take up the lead and it was his opinion that PENNY LOUISE would improve to the lead rounding the first turn and give his mount cover. J. Wood added that when PENNY LOUISE did not press forward to the lead and as THUNDER LANE was travelling comfortably, he was content to hold his position until relinquishing it to LUCKY LUNA near the 900m. Trainer S. Ryan confirmed the instructions and added that it was also his opinion that PENNY LOUISE would assume the lead from THUNDER LANE rounding the first turn and added that when LUCKY LUNA improved to the lead near the 900m and THUNDER LANE was behind that runner with cover, he was satisfied as it was his opinion that the tempo of the race in the middle stages was only slow and had the horse settled further back in the field, it would have been a disadvantage. The explanations were noted.

Yamada) had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the patrol film and taking evidence from N. Yamada, trainer M. Nolan and starter J. Roberts, it was established that TAX EVADER turned its head slightly as the start was effected and jumped away very awkwardly and lost ground. Stewards were satisfied that TAX EVADER had not been denied a fair start and therefore gave correct weight on the Judge's placings of 4, 3, 15 and 2. Trainer M. Nolan was advised that a warning was being placed on TAX EVADER's barrier manners.

FORTUNATE FURY (J. Taylor) raced ungenerously in the middle stages.

NOT TO SHARE hung in from the 700m until after entering the home straight.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          J. Bowditch, the rider of WINDSPLITTER, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in near the 700m and tighten the running of FORTUNATE FURY, which had to be checked. When considering this matter, stewards took into account that FORTUNATE FURY raced greenly through that section of the event, and that MISS LEIBERT (S. Bogenhuber), which was racing forward of WINDSPLITTER, lost ground when racing greenly and had also contributed to the incident.

PSYCHODELIC (L. Rolls) and RUBY SECRET (C. Munce) raced three wide throughout.

NOT TO SHARE raced three wide without cover throughout.

Rounding the home turn both WINDSPLITTER (J. Bowditch) and JACK'S BACK were held up and unable to improve.

JACK'S BACK hung in in the early part of the home straight.

Bowditch, the rider of WINDSPLITTER, which performed below market expectations, explained that as the colt was unable to muster speed in the early stages it settled further back than he would have liked and due to this he elected to remain to the inside rounding the home turn and in the home straight, however WINDSPLITTER did not sprint as expected when he placed that runner under pressure. J. Bowditch added that in his opinion WINDSPLITTER will be better suited in races 1200m and longer.

Webb, trainer of FLAMMABLE, regarding the seemingly improved performance of the horse today. Mr Webb stated that the horse was back in grade from its most recent start in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and at its start prior to that the horse was forced to race wide from a wide barrier against older horses and only tired over the concluding stages.

Munce, the rider of CAT EYES, reported that in the early part of the straight he was held up for clear running behind LUCKY LEAK and was unable to gain clear running due to FACILE TIGRE being positioned to his immediate outside. C. Munce added that nearing the 200m he was able to move the tiring FACILE TIGRE wider on the track and obtain clear running to the outside of LUCKY LEAK and CAT EYES finished the race off fairly.

Cahill regarding the performance of FACILE TIGRE. M. Cahill reported that although he was forced to race three wide throughout, the gelding was under pressure approaching the home turn and in his view was disappointing. Trainer J. McLachlan stated that he was disappointed with the performance of FACILE TIGRE but on reflection believed that the horse races best when fresh and with this in mind he intended to spell FACILE TIGRE immediately.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          J. Holder, the rider of STARTLING PLEASURE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of INANNA (E. Wilkinson), resulting in that horse being taken in on to GENERAL SECRETARY, which in turn was taken in on to CHASTE (C. Munce), which resulted in both horses being severely crowded and having to be checked and INANNA having to be subsequently checked when STARTLING PLEASURE continued to shift in when not fully clear. J. Holder's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday, 30 January, and expire at midnight on Friday, 12 February 2011.

LADY SELENE (S. Galloway) shifted out near the 500m around the heels of SPANISH FLING (M. Radecker) which resulted in WARRIOR GIRL (D. Griffin) being taken wider on the track.

INANNA was held up in the early part of the straight and near the 200m shifted to the inside of the tiring STARTLING PLEASURE (J. Holder), making contact with FUNTANTES (J. Byrne), which then shifted out tightening the running of INANNA which had to be steadied.

CHASTE was held up behind INANNA until a point passing the 200m and was obliged to shift wider on the track to obtain clear running.

Approaching the 200m SPANISH FLING (M. Radecker) shifted in and away from CARIAD (J. Wood) and in doing so tightened the running of LADY SELENE and had to be steadied momentarily.

After passing the 200m WELCOME SITE (Michael Palmer) was held up at the heels of CHILLY RULER (J. Bowditch) and near the 100m had to be checked when WELCOME SITE improved to the inside of CHILLY RULER where there was insufficient room.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          B. El-Issa, the rider of Acquired (NZ), was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in leaving the 200m tightening the running of the tiring BEVAGNA, which had to be steadied.

A post-race veterinary examination of WELCOME SITE revealed that the mare had been galloped on on the off hind leg.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          J. Byrne, the rider of FUNTANTES, reported that whilst he was held up in the early part of the straight, near the 300m he had an opportunity to improve into a run, however FUNTANTES did not accelerate quickly enough to make use of that opportunity. J. Byrne added that he felt the 58kg today together with the mare's reluctance to stretch out on the firm surface explained why the mare did not finish the race off as expected.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          J. Byrne) commenced to overrace.

CAVALIERED and MAN FROM OZ (C. Near the 900m, STREETSON, which continued to overrace, shifted out and as a result GOLDEN KID (B. El-Issa) improved to the inside of STREETSON which resulted in STREETSON being placed out on to the heels of HARDHEADED (J. Taylor) and having to be checked.

HARDHEADED, STREETSON, IT'S WUNDERBAR (Michael Palmer) and RETROSPECT (C. For some distance passing the 100m RED STORY had difficulty obtaining a clear run.

BOOTOOLOO (E. B. El-Issa reported that GOLDEN KID did not stretch out on the firm track and he became concerned with the horse's action over the concluding stages and therefore did not unduly pressure the horse to the line. A post-race veterinary examination of GOLDEN KID revealed no abnormality. Trainer M. Nolan will be interviewed in the days following the event in regards to the condition of GOLDEN KID.

Trainer R. Lipp advised stewards that C. Munce had reported to him that RETROSPECT did not appreciate the firm surface today and that he became concerned with the horse's action over the concluding stages and did not unduly pressure the horse when it commenced to tire after racing wide. Mr Lipp undertook to advise stewards of anything that may be amiss with the horse in coming days.
