Wood, the rider of RACING STRIPES, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift in under riding when not sufficiently clear of KARL THE GREAT, resulting in that runner having to be checked to avoid the heels of RACING STRIPES. Apprentice M. Wood's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday, 7 November, and expire following the Ipswich day meeting on Friday, 19 November 2010.

Holder regarding the performance of ASHMA'S GOLD. J. Holder explained that the mare travelled well in the early and middle stages behind the leaders, however when placed under pressure did not quicken as expected and in his opinion may have been feeling the effects of its third start in as many weeks. J. Holder added that ASHMA'S GOLD may now be better suited over a longer distance than today's race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Approaching the 200m DANAGAZE improved into the run and made heavy contact with the hinquarters of PROFESSOR resulting in the gelding becoming unbalanced. Stewards were satisfied that DANAGAZE did initially have a narrow run available upon straightening however after rider L.Cassidy had committed to the run PROFESSOR shifted in slightly resulting in him being unable to proceed without bumping heavily with PROFESSOR. L.Cassidy was advised to exercise greater care when attempting to improve his position in similar circumstances in the future.

In the early part of the home straight CHE CASINO was held up and unable to improve until approaching the 200m.

On return to scale S. Seamer reported that SMUGGLER'S INN, when being steadied rounding the first turn out of the straight, was inclined to hang out and proved difficult to ride and was obliged to race wide from that point.

ELEVENTH COMMAND and FARMER DON commenced to weaken from the 600m and were beaten a considerable distance. Trainer L. Van Der Sluys and trainer J. McLachlan's stable representative were advised that their respective runners would not be permitted to start in the metropolitan area until such time as they establish satisfactory form in the provincial area. A post-race veterinary examination of FARMER DON revealed no abnormality.

When questioned regarding the performance of XANTHOS, apprentice J. Wood explained that the gelding did not travel well after passing the 1000m and failed to respond to his riding in the home straight. Apprentice Wood added that XANTHOS may be feeling the effects of recent racing. Trainer T. Crane advised that the gelding will now be sent for a spell.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          R. Wiggins, the rider of PANNINGEN, which performed below expectations, explained that the gelding travelled well until placed under pressure approaching the home turn and failed to respond to his riding from that point and in his view was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of PANNINGEN revealed no abnormality. Trainer B. Smith advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.

Wood) commenced to overrace and improved to the inside of HEART OF THE CITI (M. Radecker) where there was insufficient room, resulting in THE SIXTIES having to be checked to avoid the heels of HEART OF THE CITI. FLORAMOUR, which was following, also had to be checked and shifted out making heavy contact with GHETTO BLASTER (B. Stewart). THE SIXTIES continued to overrace at the heels of HEART OF THE CITI and shifted out making contact with FORESTRENO (G. Colless), which was forced wider on the track.

After passing the 300m GHETTO BLASTER shifted out around the heels of FORESTRENO and made contact with THE SIXTIES.

RED SPHERE (J. Holder) was held up and unable to obtain clear running in the home straight and as a result went to the line not fully tested by its rider.

Over the concluding stages GHETTO BLASTER had to be steadied to avoid the heels of THE SIXTIES, which shifted in under pressure. Apprentice M. Wood, the rider of THE SIXTIES, was issued with a reprimand and advised to stop riding and straighten his mounts in future.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          B. Stewart, the rider of GHETTO BLASTER, advised that he was awkwardly placed approaching and rounding the home turn at the heels of HEART OF THE CITI and shortly after straightening, once he obtained clear running to the outside of FORESTRENO, the gelding sprinted well with the big weight of 59 kg, however he was of the view that the gelding peaked on its run inside the final 50m.

Stewards sought an explanation from J. Holder, the rider of RED SPHERE, regarding the riding tactics he adopted, in particular whether he had the opportunity to shift wider on the track after passing the 600m and attempt to improve his position. J. Holder explained that at that point he was racing to the inside of the heels of ROCKDALE, however when FORESTRENO improved to his outside rounding the home turn he was held up for a majority of the home straight behind ROCKDALE before shifting to the inside of the heels of MOTSPUR (M. Wiggins, the rider of UMANUGGET, explained that the gelding travelled well until placed under pressure approaching the home turn and failed to respond to his riding from that point and in his view was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of UMANUGGET failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Seamer, the rider of DANEOMITE, which performed below expectations, explained that the gelding travelled well, however did not quicken as he expected when placed under pressure in the straight. S. Seamer added that DANEOMITE may be better suited on rain-affected tracks. Trainer T. Harden reported that the horse would now be sent for a spell.

A post-race veterinary examination of JUST DESTINY, which finished a distant last after travelling wide from the 600m, revealed the filly to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery rate. Trainer R. Lipp advised on Monday that horse had been hit on both off fore and hind legs in several places.

When questioned regarding the performance of BIG CHANCE, C. Munce explained that the gelding overraced in the early stages and settled in a more forward position than anticipated, and once he applied pressure in the home straight BIG CHANCE did not sprint as expected and weakened over the final 200m. C. Munce added that BIG CHANCE would take benefit from today's race. A post-race veterinary examination of BIG CHANCE failed to reveal any abnormalities.

When asked to explain the performance of STEEL DRAGON, apprentice M. Wood stated that the gelding, after it was bumped on the hind quarters near the 900m by CHOSEN TO FLY, became unbalanced and never travelled well from that point. M. Wood added that he applied pressure to STEEL DRAGON rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight, however the gelding did not respond to his riding and he eased STEEL DRAGON down over the final 100m as he was concerned with the horse's action. A post-race veterinary examination of STEEL DRAGON revealed no abnormality. Trainer G. Heinrich advised Monday morning that the horse had recovered well and was at a loss to explain the performance other than thinking that perhaps the 1000m first up run may have taken more out of him than she initially thought it had.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice B. Looker regarding the riding tactics he adopted on ADEBISI in the early and middle stages where the colt was ridden forward aggressively from a wide barrier to the lead and set a fast tempo in the middle stages before weakening over the final 200m. Apprentice Looker explained that in order to comply with instructions he rode ADEBISI aggressively from the wide barrier, however the colt overraced despite his attempts to restrain and slow the tempo. He added that ADEBISI was inclined to lay out rounding the turn near the 800m and also rounding the home turn and may have resented the tongue tie it was racing in for the first time today. Stewards noted his explanation.
