Race 1 Glenlogan Park Stud Handicap (2 Year Old Maiden) 1110 Metres
STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT : As apprentice M. Speers was to be overweight, apprentice M. Wood was substituted as the rider of TOMARNEY.
TOMARNEY (M. Wood), which slipped over in the enclosure, was examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to proceeding to the barriers and again on arrival at the barriers and passed fit to take its place in the field.
BOUNDING ALONG (G. Colless) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with IRRESISTIBLE ME (K. Fuji), which in turn shifted in making contact with RUDDER (C. Munce).
Near the 900m REIGNING MAGIC (J. Byrne) became awkward after shifting in and away from BOUNDING ALONG which shifted in.
REIGNING MAGIC continued to overrace and near the 750m shifted out making contact with MAJESTIC EXPRESS.
YOSEMITE SAM (J. Bowditch) and COLLECTOR (M. Hellyer) raced wide throughout.
Leaving the 500m MAJESTIC EXPRESS improved on to the heels of NOT TO SHARE and had to be steadied.
Leaving the 400m NOT TO SHARE (L. Cassidy) shifted out to improve and in doing so made contact with YOSEMITE SAM.
Near the 300m MAJESTIC EXPRESS, when struck with the whip, shifted out across the heels of YOSEMITE SAM, obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten at that point.
A post-race veterinary examination of REIGNING MAGIC, which raced greenly throughout, revealed the colt to be shin sore in the off foreleg. Trainer J. Walk gave an undertaking to spell the colt.
Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless regarding the performance of BOUNDING ALONG. Jockey Colless stated that in his opinion the filly lost concentration at several stages during the race and shortly after passing the 800m he was forced to pressure the filly to hold its position behind the lead. G. Colless added that after being momentarily held up leaving the 300m the horse was reluctant to take advantage of a narrow run, despite his urgings, between IRRESISTIBLE ME and RUDDER.
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 3, retrospective to Race 1.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT : BACKUP PLAN (M. Wood) was tightened for room at the start between COASTAL (J. Byrne) and BITTERMAGIC (J. Bowditch) which jumped away awkwardly and shifted out.
IGLESIA GRACE (M. Radecker) raced wide throughout.
COASTAL and LIBERTY'S MAGIC raced wide from the 700m.
Near the 600m ONAROHL (M. Hellyer) shifted out to avoid the heels of the tiring WAIKATO BOY (R. Hancock) and in doing so hampered WACHEEM (Matthew Palmer) and COASTAL, forcing those two runners wider on the track. Apprentice M. Hellyer was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Rounding the home turn WABEEL (S. Galloway) and BACKUP PLAN were momentarily held up for clear running behind the tiring WAIKATO BOY.
Near the 200m COASTAL and IGLESIA GRACE were both steadied and forced wider on the track when WACHEEM was taken out by WABEEL, which shifted out to obtain clear running. S. Galloway, the rider of WABEEL, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Stewards sought an explanation from S. Seamer, the rider of GAILWIN, and C. Munce, the rider of KYLIE EM, in regards to the tactics adopted on their respective mounts, specifically regarding the genuine tempo set through the early and middle stages when occupying the lead and the position outside the lead. S. Seamer stated that he had been advised by trainer D. Forster to wear spurs and instructed to lead on GAILWIN. S. Seamer stated that he began only fairly but in compliance with his instructions he rode aggressively to take up the leading position approaching the first turn. S. Seamer added that KYLIE EM then raced up to his outside and whilst it appeared to him that KYLIE EM was overracing, he was still occupying a half length advantage mid-way down the back straight and he was reluctant to restrain his mount as he felt that if he was forced to race head and head with KYLIE EM, that his mount would then fire up and overrace. C. Munce advised stewards that he was not issued any specific instructions and he did not ride KYLIE EM from the barriers with an intention to lead, however KYLIE EM commenced to overrace prior to rounding the first turn and continued to do so throughout the early and middle stages despite his efforts to restrain the horse. Both riders acknowledged that the speed of the race was genuine for this class of horse but neither rider felt there was any alternative open to them that would have been of any benefit to the chances of their respective mounts and informed stewards that the racing manners of KYLIE EM were the aggravating factor that resulted in the faster than average pace. After viewing the patrol footage, stewards accepted the explanations offered.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT : Stewards permitted S. Galloway to replace the injured apprentice B. Wallace as the rider of MACSQUIRE when there was no apprentice available who could ride the horse at the weight.
NEWLY ELECTED (M. Wood) jumped away awkwardly, making contact with CHARTER BOAT (G. Colless), causing that horse to become unbalanced.
Approaching the 1300m NEWLY ELECTED commenced to overrace on the heels of CHARTER BOAT and as a result shifted wider on the track forcing MONSIEUR MARCEAU (Michael Palmer) wider on the track. NEWLY ELECTED continued to overrace and as a result rider M. Wood allowed that gelding to stride forward to assume a position outside the lead near the 900m.
JUST A GLAMOUR (C. Munce) was unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages by its rider as it hung in under pressure from the 300m onwards.
Stewards questioned G. Colless regarding the performance of CHARTER BOAT. Jockey Colless stated that in his opinion the horse performs better in rain-affected conditions and may not have appreciated today's firmer racing surface.
Apprentice M. Wood, the rider of NEWLY ELECTED, reported that in his opinion the horse felt like it shortened stride from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination of NEWLY ELECTED revealed no significant abnormalities.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT : ONE TREE (L. Cassidy), which was slow to begin, was hampered and lost ground shortly afterwards between SIR STANLEY (A. Spinks), which shifted out, and ICANTEL (J. Taylor), which was taken in by GORDOMEN (Matthew Palmer).
SIDADA (S. Drake) was slow to begin.
VINTAGE BLACK (M. Wood) jumped away awkwardly, made contact with BATTLE STREET (M. Cahill) and lost ground.
Near the 900m GORDOMEN shifted in and had to be steadied from the heels of STARBODA (J. Byrne). As a result, DONE ALL DONE (S. Galloway), which was following, was forced to check.
Near the 800m ICANTEL hung out and shifted wider on the track. A short distance later ICANTEL shifted in and had to be steadied from the heels of ONE TREE.
S. Drake, the rider of SIDADA, was was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 300m she directed her mount out resulting in tightening to LEICA BEACH BOY (A. Butler) and ONE TREE, which were racing to the outside of SIDADA. In this incident ONE TREE was tightened on to the hind quarters of GORDOMEN, which resulted in ONE TREE having to be checked and losing its position. S. Drake's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Friday, 18 February, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 27 February 2011.

Jockey Cassidy stated that he had considered shifting wider on the track, however he was mindful of the fact that the horse was having its first start back from a spell over 1350m and carrying 58kg and he therefore felt it would diminish the horse's capacity to finish off the race if he were to make a forward move wide on the track 700m from the winning post. L. Cassidy further added that ICANTEL progressed to his outside shortly after this point and he was then obliged to search for clear running towards the inside. Jockey Cassidy added that his winning prospects were affected when ONE TREE suffered interference upon entering the straight.
A post-race veterinary examination of ICANTEL, which tailed off, revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg.

Leaving the 200m SPECIAL SOMETHING (C. Munce) was disappointed for a run between MINI DELAGO and BOOTOOLOO (L. Cassidy) which shifted in, and as a result C. Munce was forced to stop riding and shift out across the heels of BOOTOOLOO.

Colless stated that approaching the home turn MINI DELAGO, which was racing forward of him, moved to an unorthodox position half off the fence and he anticipated MINI DELAGO moving wider and he therefore persisted for a run to the inside of MINI DELAGO until entering the straight when MINI DELAGO shifted out, which initially afforded him clear running, however he was again held up for clear running on the heels of BOOBYELLA (M. Cahill) between the 200m and the 100m.
Stewards questioned trainer T. Bailey regarding the disappointing performance of NO HALOS. Mr Bailey stated that in his opinion the horse may not have appreciated the quick back up from its most recent start and following today's performance it was his intention to send the gelding for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of NO HALOS revealed no significant abnormalities.
BOOBYELLA bled from both nostrils during the event. Trainer J. Dittman was advised that as this was the 2nd time that BOOBYELLA had bled, it will incur a lifetime bar from racing.
