Stewards Report extract : Apprentice A. Butler was fined $100 under AR. 92(12) for failing to claim his full allowance on BOTH.
SECOND ATTEMPT (J. Taylor) knuckled at the start.
Near the 1300m MISS LUCKY CHOICE (B. Evans) was momentarily tightened for room between SECOND ATTEMPT and MAGIC OPTION, which shifted in slightly.
When the pace steadied leaving the 1200m WHY NOT NOW (L. Cassidy) had to be restrained to avoid the heels of IT'S ALL HAPPENING. MAGIC OPTION, which was following, had to be severely checked to avoid the heels of WHY NOT NOW.
Near the 500m IT'S ALL HAPPENING hung out away from SECOND ATTEMPT, which resulted in PUERTO VALLARTA being inconvenienced.
After passing the 400m BOTH (A. Butler) shifted in and brushed the running rail.
Over the concluding stages BOTH was held up and unable to improve when awkwardly placed at the heels of GHIACCIO (P. Hammersley).
D. Griffin, the rider of PUERTO VALLARTA, which performed below market expectations, explained that the mare travelled well in the early and middle stages, albeit being caught three wide, however failed to respond to his riding from the 700m and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of PUERTO VALLARTA revealed no abnormalities.

Looker explained that the gelding raced three wide with cover in the early and middle stages and travelled well, however when placed under pressure upon straightening was inclined to hang in and did not quicken as expected. A post-race veterinary examination of UTMOST FAITH failed to reveal any abnormalities.

After correct weight was declared, trainer M. Eggleston requested to view the stewards' footage to ascertain the reason for BOTH being slow to begin. After viewing this footage in the presence of rider apprentice A. Butler and the official starter Mr M. Henderson, it was established that just prior to the start being effected BOTH became fractious and on jumping away began awkwardly and was further hampered by MAGIC OPTION (K. Ashton) which shifted out, forcing BOTH out across the heels of IT'S ALL HAPPENING (M. Hellyer).

Stewards Report extract : As M. Cahill was to be overweight, P. Hammersley was substituted as the rider of STRATEGICAL PLAN. M. Cahill was fined $200 under AR. 120(b).
GREY ASSIGNMENT (S. Scriven) commenced to overrace approaching the 900m and shifted out when being restrained behind the heels of HARVEY'S CUGAT (S. Seamer). MINYA MAI (D. Barron) and BACKUP PLAN (J. Taylor), which were trailing, were both inconvenienced in the incident.
NOT DECLARED (M. Hellyer) and FLASH THE ROCK (B. Stewart) raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 600m HARVEY'S CUGAT raced ungenerously and shifted in and hampered MAGIC TURBO (S. Bogenhuber). From that point, the saddle on MAGIC TURBO shifted forward, which placed its rider at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.
Stewards questioned S. Scriven in relation to his riding of GREY ASSIGNMENT in the early stages when racing in a three-wide position, the reason for him restraining the gelding back to obtain cover trailing HARVEY'S CUGAT. S. Scriven explained that he was instructed to ride the horse in a midfield position with cover and that to comply with these instructions he restrained GREY ASSIGNMENT, however near the 900m when it commenced to overrace at the heels of HARVEY'S CUGAT he was obliged to shift wider. S. Scriven added he had informed connections that in his opinion, with the way in which the race was run he may have been better suited allowing the gelding to stride forward closer to the lead rather than complying with instructions.
L. Cassidy was questioned regarding his riding of FRIENDLY MUSIC. L Cassidy explained that rather than being caught wide he eased the horse after travelling a short distance, however it commenced to race untruly and despite his urgings in the middle stages of the event failed to make up any significant ground, however the horse ran on fairly when taken to the outside over the final 200m.

Stewards Report extract : Near the 1000m CAVALIERED (B. Evans) was brushed by WARANGA (M. Heagney), which shifted in. WARANGA then made the first turn near the 900m extremely wide on the track.
Also near the 1000m HUBERT (A. Butler), when overracing, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of KNUTE.
KNUTE lost its near hind plate in running.
On return to scale apprentice A. Butler, the rider of HUBERT, lodged an objection against KNUTE (S. Bogenhuber), being declared 3rd, alleging interference between the 250m and the 100m. After taking evidence from all relevant parties and viewing the patrol film, stewards were of the view that KNUTE did shift out from the 250m but at the relevant time was sufficiently clear of HUBERT and as a result of this shift A. Butler elected to alter course on HUBERT to the inside of KNUTE in order to improve. As stewards were not satisfied that HUBERT had obtained a run to the outside of KNUTE, the protest was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the Judge's semaphored numbers. Whilst stewards acknowledged that KNUTE did not cause direct interference to HUBERT, they nonetheless advised S. Bogenhuber of her obligations to stop riding and straighten her mounts when they shift ground.

After travelling a short distance NOTHIN' LEICA DAME (G. Lynch) commenced to buck and did so for some distance. Trainer G. Williams' stable representative was advised that NOTHIN' LEICA DAME must compete in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race again.
Near the 700m GAZE ON (B. Evans) shifted out and had to be eased to avoid the heels of EPHRAIM WARRIOR.
For some distance in the middle stages VIVAHEART overraced and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of NIGHT ESCORT (L. Cassidy).

Cheshire, the rider of VIVAHEART, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 300m she permitted her mount to shift out when not sufficiently clear of THE JOKER (P. Hammersley), resulting in that runner being tightened, taken across the heels of GURU (R. Wiggins) and having to be checked. L. Cheshire's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday, 13 November, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 24 November 2010.
