FALVELIZABETH (J. Letherby) hung in when placed under pressure over the final 300m. 

FALVELIZABETH and CRYSTAL HONOUR (L. Cassidy) raced wide throughout. 

Following this race the track rating was upgraded to Dead 5 retrospective to this race.

Stewards Report Extract : HERECOMESTHERAIN (M. Wood), MARGINS (P. Wolfgram) and ZIGURAT (C. Munce) were slow to begin. 

PYM'S LANE (J. Byrne) jumped away awkwardly, making heavy contact with MASTER OF PUPPETS (D. Browne).

Leaving the 800m, DECLARED DANGEROUS (M. Speers), when racing greenly, shifted out and bumped MARGINS.

Near the 600m, DECLARED DANGEROUS continued to race greenly and shifted in and away from MARGINS, which momentarily tightened the running of HERECOMESTHERAIN.

TAKOTNA (J. Stanley) raced 3 wide without cover throughout the race. 

MARGINS also raced wide throughout. 

HERECOMESTHERAIN, which weakened badly from the 500m to be beaten a considerable distance, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon with no abnormalities reported. Trainer B. Baldwin was advised that the gelding must compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial before being eligible to race again, and would not be eligible to race at TAB venues until it can establish some form at country venues for what stewards deemed an unsatisfactory performance.

Stewards Report Extract : Connections advised COCO DUBAWI would be ridden towards the rear of the field if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. 

Trainer R. Heathcote advised that ITALIAN DANZA would be ridden in a midfield to forward position from the good barrier draw. The horse was ridden accordingly. 

BALD HILL (M. Palmer) was slow to begin. 

WATTLE BRAVE (M. Wood) began awkwardly. 

STAY PUT (P. Wolfgram) pulled hard in the early stages and when the pace steadied approaching the 800m, STAY PUT had to be restrained to avoid the heels of MYSTIC MAHAL (C. Munce) for some distance. 

PICACELEB (M. Speers) also overraced in the early stages and near the 1000m had to be restrained off the heels of WATTLE BRAVE.

I'LLBETRICKED (J. Wood) overraced in the middle stages. 

Near the 500m, ILLBEBRICKED shifted out to obtain clear running around the heels of WATTLE BRAVE and made contact with PICACELEB. 

Near the 300m, WATTLE BRAVE was obliged to alter course to the outside of THEGREATANDTHEGOOD (J. Byrne) when that runner shifted in under pressure. 

J. Wood, rider of ILLBETRICKED, was reprimanded for raising his whip arm above shoulder height over the final 100m.

L. Cassidy, rider of the 4th placegetter, DEGREE OF HONOUR, was fined $100 for failing to weigh in. 

When questioned regarding his failure to ride PICACELEB out to the end of the race, Apprentince M.Speers explained that the colt did not feel comfortable in it's action when placed under pressure in the home straight and for this reason he eased PICACELEB down over the final 150m. A post race veterinary examination of PICACELEB failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Apprentice M. Speers was issued with a reprimand for failing in his responsibilities under AR 140(b) which places an obligation on a rider to report to Stewards as soon as practicable anything that might have affected the running of their mount in a race.

Stewards Report Extract : As B. Evans was unable to make the weight on RAKHMANOVA, M. Speers was substituted as the rider of that filly. 

Trainer P. Duff advised that TIT TAT TOOEE would be ridden back from the wide barrier. The horse was ridden accordingly.

Shortly after the start, TIT TAT TOOEE (J. Stanley) was tightened for room between MACKENZIE (M. Wood) and HIDDEN BABE (J. Cassidy), which shifted in and away from RAKHMANOVA (M. Speers).

TIT TAT TOOEE overraced in the early stages and approaching and passing the 1100m, had to be restrained off the heels of CUDDLES FOR LAYLA (J. Byrne). 

Approaching the 800m, FINN CLASS (D. Browne) commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of MAID OF FALVELON (G. Colless). INFAMOUS DANCER (K. Wharton), which was trailing, also had to be checked as a consequence. 

Passing the 900, MACKENZIE (M. Wood), which was overracing, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of RAKHMANOVA. 

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight, FINN CLASS (D. Browne) was held up and unable to obtain clear running, and approaching the 300m, had to alter course to the inside of the heels of RAKHMANOVA .

Approaching the 200m, HIDDEN BABE (L. Cassidy) was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of M. Wood, rider of MACKENZIE. 

Nearing the 100m, MAID OF FALVELON (G. Colless) had to be eased when tightened for room between STREET JAM (C. Munce), which shifted out slightly, and MACKENZIE (M. Wood), which was taken in by HIDDEN BABE (L. Cassidy). 

HIDDEN BABE, CUDDLES FOR LAYLA (J. Byrne) and TIT TAT TOOEE raced wide throughout. 

Stewards sought an explanation from J. Taylor, rider of KOSMIC KARMA, regarding the disappointing performance of that filly. J. Taylor explained that KOSMIC KARMA seemed to race flat today and, in his view,this may have been as a result of having its 2 most recent starts on rain affected tracks. Trainer B. Guy agreed with J. Taylor's comments and advised it would be his intention to give KOSMIC KARMA a short let up, and undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which may come to light which may have had a bearing on today's performance. 
A post race veterinary examination of KOSMIC KARMA revealed the horse to be slightly distressed. 

G. Colless, rider of MAID OF FALVELON, which performed below expectations, explained that the filly travelled well throughout the race and although he had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight, MAID OF FALVELON did not quicken as expected under riding and, in his view, proved disappointing. Trainer L. Birchley confirmed his disappointment with the performance of MAID OF FALVELON and advised that he would recommend to connections that the filly be spelled. He undertook to advise stewards of any abnormality that becomes apparent that may have had a bearing on the performance. 

Trainer R. Cameron advised stewards that LADY HAGAN, which compounded in the home straight, would now be retired from racing. A post race veterinary examination of LADY HAGAN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. 

A post race veterinary examination of RAKHMANOVA revealed the horse had been galloped on on the near hindleg and lost its near hind plate in running.

Stewards Report Extract : Apprentice J. Mallyon reported that near the 700m, his saddle slipped, which placed him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race. 

Near the 600m, LOTS OF ALLURE (B. Wallace) blundered and became unbalanced. 

From the 600m, PEGUNNY WARRIOR (L. Stojakovic) hung out and made the home turn awkwardly and brushed TUNAHOG (Michael Palmer) on a number of occasions. 

Nearing the 300m, DANEOMITE (R. Keogh), which was inclined to lay in, had to be steadied from the heels of WINDS OF FIRE, which shifted out to improve. J. Mallyon, rider of WINDS OF FIRE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future. 

Approaching the 200m, WHINER (M. Speers) had to be steadied when tightened for room by WINDS OF FIRE, which shifted in when not fully clear. J. Mallyon, rider of WINDS OF FIRE, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future. 

Nearing the finishing line WINDS OF FIRE J. Mallyon) was bumped heavily when racing between EXECUTIVE OFFICER (D. Lane) and DANEOMITE (R. Keogh), which shifted in abruptly under pressure. Apprentice R. Keogh, rider of DANEOMITE, was issued with a severe reprimand and advised in similar circumstances he must make greater effort to stop riding and straighten his mounts sooner than he did on this occasion. 

Stewards questioned apprentice Michael Palmer regarding the riding tactics employed on TUNAHOG, in particular whether when racing outside the leader, PEGUNNY WARRIOR, near the 700m he gave consideration to surrendering that position when challenged by WHINER. M. Palmer explained that he rode with some vigour in the early stages and TUNAHOG travelled comfortably outside of the leader, although he was inconvenienced when PEGUNNY WARRIOR was inclined to hang out for a major part of the race. He further stated in his view it would have been detrimental to the chances of the gelding to restrain after passing the 700m to allow WHINER to cross to the position outside the leader, as this may have resulted in him having to race wide without cover. Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith advised that he had instructed apprentice Palmer to attempt to obtain cover during the race as TUNAHOG has shown in the past that when ridden this way it finishes its races off strongly. He added that it was his opinion that it would have been a better option for apprentice Palmer to restrain TUNAHOG when challenged by WHINER to avoid having to work hard with 3 runners sharing the lead. Stewards noted the explanations. A post race veterinary examination of TUNAHOG failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Stewards Report Extract : As B. Wallace was dually engaged on Queen Thyra and Chandra, J. Wood was substituted as the rider of CHANDRA. B. Wallace was fined $100. 

After travelling a short distance, CHANDRA (J. Wood) struck the heels of WILD PROMISES (J. Bowditch) when that runner shifted in slightly and TABASSI (G. Colless) shifted out. 

BUST 'N' LOOSE (E. Wilkinson) and TEXAS RED (L. Cassidy) made contact at the start. 

Near the 800m, TABASSI was taken in slightly by WILD PROMISES, which shifted in, and shortly after shifted in away from that runner and made contact with EXCELLANTES (D. Browne). 

Passing the 500m, QUEEN THYRA (B. Wallace) hung out away from BUST 'N' LOOSE, which shifted out slightly and had to be checked to avoid the heels of EXCELLANTES. 

A post race veterinary examination of CHANDRA failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Stewards Report Extract : ZEALANDIA was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon prior to the race and cleared to take its place in the field. 

RED GOD (J. Byrne) and HANDSOME (E. Wilkinson) were slow to begin, then raced wide throughout. 

Leaving the 500m CARRY ME BABY (C. Munce) shifted out and brushed HANDSOME. 

HANDSOME raced wide throughout. 

Jockey G. Colless advised that DUSTY GOLD never travelled comfortably during the race to the inside of RED GOD, and in the home straight did not quicken and, in his opinion, the gelding is better suited when racing on the outside of other horses and improving into the race and finishing off wide in the home straight, as it seems to resent racing between horses. 

RED GOD lost its near fore pate in running.

Stewards Report Extract : Apprentice M. Wood was fined $750 for failing to claim his allowance down to his declared riding weight on COSMIC CRUZ Race 1, HERECOMESTEHRAIN Race 2, MACKENZIE (Race 4) and CAP VILANO (Race 8).

Connections advised that from the better draw it would be ridden in a more forward position. The horse was ridden accordingly. 

DOUBLE RISE (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, bumping LOOPED (K. Fujii).

Near the 600m, G. Colless, rider of PROST, attempted to shift wider on the track to improve where there was insufficient room and made contact with LOOPED, and shortly after PROST struck the heels of BREAK THE ICE (S. Seamer).

G. Colless, rider of PROST, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted mount to shift out near the 300m when insufficiently clear of TUSCON RAIN (J. Bowditch) resulting in J. Bowditch having to take hold of TUSCON RAIN to avoid the heels of PROST when tightened between PROST and BREAK THE ICE. G. Colless was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 26 March and to expire at midnight, 3 April. 

CAP VILANO (M. Wood) raced wide throughout. 

Stewards sought an explanation from L. Cassidy regarding the performance of TRISKELE, which performed below market expectations. L. Cassidy stated that after travelling well to the 600m, he then placed the gelding under pressure and at that point it failed to respond to his riding. He further stated that over the concluding stages he had concerns as to whether the horse may have bled and for this reason he did not pressure the horse over the concluding stages. Trainer B. Smith confirmed his disappointment and was at a loss to explain the performance.
