Jockey L. Cassidy, rider of FALVELINA, was issued with a reprimand for using his whip on more than 5 occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.

Stewards sought an explanation regarding the performance of MONASHEE DANCER. Apprentice M. Palmer explained that the horse settled well in the lead, however was pressured for that position from the 700m until shortly after straightening by TYCOON TATTOO (J. Bowditch), which was racing to his outside. He added that MONASHEE DANCER did not quicken when placed under pressure in the home straight and was disappointing over the final 200m. Trainer D. Bell was also disappointed with the performance of MONASHEE DANCER and was of the opinion that the 1 month break between runs may not have suited the horse and, in his opinion, MONASHEE DANCER would take benefit from today's race. Mr Bell undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which may come to light which may have had a bearing on today's performance. A post race veterinary examination of MONASHEE DANCER failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

He explained that he was forced to race 3 wide on the mare without cover throughout and when placed under pressure entering the home straight, LUCKY SONGS did not respond to his riding and, in his view, was not completely comfortable on today's rain affected track. Stable representative Mr S. Morrisey agreed with M. Palmer's comments that LUCKY SONGS did not appear completely comfortable on the rain affected track and undertook to report to stewards should any abnormality come to light that may have had a bearing on the performance. A post race veterinary examination of LUCKY SONGS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

McMahon) was bumped by BACK BANNER, which resulted in RUN AWAY RUBY shifting out, striking the heels of MARGINS (S. Galloway) and blundering badly.

VIKING HEART raced very fiercely in the early stages and was unable to be restrained by its rider. For this reason, it was taken wider on the track passing the 1000m and was ridden forward to cross to a position outside the leader approaching the 600m. Trainer K. Schweida was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse regarding its racing manners. Mr Schweida stated he would consider sending VIKING HEART for a brief spell and may experiment with gear changes prior to its next race start.

Speers) shifted in and brushed the running rail.

MARGINS, TAKOTNA (K. Wharton) and BLACK BANNER all overraced due to the slow tempo in the early stages.

BLACK CASH raced wide to a point near the 500m.

Rounding the home turn, INTO THE DEEP (L. Rolls) was hampered by CALLAN PARK (M. Speers) when that runner shifted out to obtain clear running.

Near the 150m, TAKOTNA shifted out around the heels of BEVICO GIRL (B. El-Issa) in order to improve, which resulted in MARGINS (S. Galloway) being tightened for room between TAKOTNA and CALLAN PARK. K. Wharton, rider of TAKOTNA, was issued with a reprimand.

BEVICO GIRL (B. El-Issa) raced wide throughout.

When questioned regarding the performance of TRUE BLITZ, rider D. Browne explained that the gelding was slow to begin and then could not muster speed in the early stages despite being ridden aggressively. D. Browne added that TRUE BLITZ began to travel comfortably to the inside of BLACK BANNER passing the 900m when the tempo of the race slowed, but following the tempo increasing from the 700m, TRUE BLITZ again had to be ridden with vigour in order to improve. He further stated that when placed under pressure after entering the straight, the gelding began to respond to his riding but he was unable to shift wider on the track due to a number of runners to his outside. He further stated that after passing the 100m, he attempted to obtain a run between TAKOTNA and BEVICO GIRL but shortly after, BEVICO GIRL shifted out slightly under pressure and as a result he was held up over the concluding stages

Cassidy) attempted to improve to the outside of ACQUIRED (B. El-Issa) where there was insufficient room and as a result made heavy contact with SANDERSON (J. Holder). LUCKY DUBAI then shifted back inwards and had to be checked to avoid the heels of ACQUIRED (B. El-Issa).

When placed under pressure near the 200m, LUCKY DUBAI was inclined to lay in behind the heels of ACQUIRED.

LITTLE STRANGER (S. Galloway) raced wide throughout.

Stewards questioned J. Holder regarding the tactics he employed on SANDERSON in the early stages of the race where he settled at the rear of the field, which was in contrast to its most recent start . J. Holder explained that at its last start after being slow to begin, he rode the gelding vigorously for a short distance and this resulted in the gelding overracing, and for this reason he settled further forward in the field than anticipated. He added that he was instructed from the wide barrier today to ride SANDERSON where it was comfortable and after improving into the race from the 700m, it did not respond to his riding in the home straight and was disappointed with the finishing effort of the gelding over the final 250m. A post race veterinary examination of SANDERSON revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer K. Doughty was advised that she would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for SANDERSON prior to its next race start.

Wharton) overraced in the early stages, and near the 900m when the pace steadied, shifted out to avoid the heels of MACHINATION (Michael Palmer), which resulted in CHARTER BOAT (L. Rolls) being taken wider on the track. CITIWYSE raced wide from that point.

Near the 800m, MACHINATION (M. Palmer), when being steadied, threw its head up and shifted in towards the running rail and became unbalanced.

Passing the 800m, BUDABAR (S. Galloway), when overracing, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of MACHINATION (Michael Palmer)

In the early stages of the home straight, HEARTSHAKER (L. Cassidy) was held up and unable to obtain clear running, and again passing the 200m was held up for a short distance before shifting to the outside of GOD'S HAND in order to improve.

Approaching the 300m, BUDABAR (S. Galloway) shifted out and brushed CHARTER BOAT (L. Rolls), resulting in BUDABAR becoming unbalanced.

MACHINATION (M. Palmer) was held up and unable to obtain clear running in the home straight until approaching the 100m.

CHARTER BOAT was momentarily inconvenienced when tightened for room by GOD'S HAND (M. Speers), which shifted in near the 300m.

GOD'S HAND hung in when placed under pressure after passing the 300m.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          CHARTER BOAT raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from L. Rolls regarding the performance of CHARTER BOAT. L. Rolls explained that the gelding was forced to race wide throughout the event but was of the view that that was not a distinct disadvantage due to the slow tempo. He added that the gelding did not at any stage travel comfortably and, in his view, is better suited on heavy tracks. A post race veterinary examination of CHARTER BOAT failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. A routine swab sample was taken from CHARTER BOAT. 1   God's Hand     Mitchell Speers      Bradley Herne         $12

Holder) shifted out slightly and brushed CHANDRA (L. Rolls), which resulted in ALTAI WARRIOR (B. Stewart), which was restraining and shifting in to obtain a position closer to the fence, striking the heels of CHANDRA and blundering. DOMINI, which was trailing, was inconvenienced in this incident. As a result, ALTAI WARRIOR shifted out and made heavy contact with RUAPEHU BOY (B. El-Issa). Stewards could not attribute blame for this incident to any rider error and took no action.

FILLYDELPHIA then shifted to the outside of the heels of HEARTS'N'DIAMONDS in order to improve.
