Colless, rider of GOD BLESS US, advised stewards that after being slow to begin the filly raced greenly and could not muster speed in the early stages, however worked to the finish line strongly in the home straight and, in his opinion, would take benefit from the experience of today's race.

Trainer M. Nolan was advised that DOUG'S JET, which attempted to buck shortly after the start, must trail to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to its next race start.
PUNCH ON (B. Stewart) laid out when placed under pressure in the straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage in fully testing the filly.

On several occasions in the home straight, BOUNDING ALONG (M. Hellyer) laid in behind the heels of PUNCH ON, placing rider M. Hellyer at a disadvantage.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          B. Stewart was dislodged from PUNCH ON on pulling up, and as a result B. Stewart was unable to weigh in. Acting under the provisions of AR142, stewards gave correct weight on the semaphored numbers.

Colless reported that GYPSY HEART hung out between the 800m and 400m and proved difficult to ride. A post race veterinary examination of GYPSY HEART revealed the gelding had pulled up slightly lame in the near foreleg. Trainer P. Duff will be advised that he would be required to produce a veterinary clearance for GYPSY HEART prior to its next race start.

Stewards sought an explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance of LADY'S COMMAND. Apprentice M. Hellyer stated that whilst the filly travelled well throughout the early and middle stages, it failed to respond to his riding in the home straight and proved disappointing. He was of the opinion that LADY'S COMMAND may not have backed up from its most recent start and felt that it did not cope with the rise in distance today. Trainer S. Tregea stated it was the filly's first racing preparation and felt that in light of the disappointing performance today it had come to the end of its preparation and he would now send LADY'S COMMAND for an immediate spell.

Wood and trainer K. Schweida in regard to the tactics employed on TAFEER through the early and middle stages, which resulted in TAFEER covering the first 900m in extremely fast time. Apprentice Wood stated that from his wide barrier he had to be positive on the mare from the gates in order to take up its customary forward position. M. Wood added that after reaching the lead he attempted to steadied TAFEER however the mare overraced despite his efforts to slow the speed. M. Wood further stated that TAFEER jumped a section of the track in the early stages which he believed fired the mare up and this added to his difficulties when he then attempted to steady TAFEER. Trainer K. Schweida stated that TAFEER was stepping up in distance today and had not started for 3 weeks, and he was a little concerned that the mare would race fresh stepping up to a 1500m event. K. Schweida added that the wider barrier demanded that M. Wood had to be aggressive in the early stages, and this was not ideal in today's circumstances. Their explanations were noted.

Munce) and DANAGALL (M. Cahill), which shifted in after becoming unbalanced as a result of POINTE DANCER making contact with DANAGALL when securing running to the inside of that horse.

Cahill, rider of SPIRIT OF BOOM, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out near the 500m making heavy contact with MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO, which was taken out onto CASH 'N' STYLE (R. Wiggins), forcing both of those runners wider on the track.

Apprentice M. Hellyer, rider of G'DAY OLD MATE, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in away from the heels of the tiring THEFIRTHHOLE (J. Byrne) near the 300m, which resulted in CROFTSIDE being tightened for room and having to be checked.

IGLES STAR (J. Bowditch), CASH 'N' STYLE and WHY SO EXPENSIVE raced wide throughout.

D'JET (E. Wilkinson) raced extremely wide without cover throughout the race.

WHY SO EXPENSIVE lost its off fore plate in running.

Stewards sought an explanation from D. Griffin, rider of AUDACIOUS SPIRIT, and J. Byrne, rider of THEFIFTHHOLE, regarding the tactics they employed on their respective mounts during the early and middle stages. D. Griffin stated that he rode AUDACIOUS SPIRIT aggressively from the barriers in order to take up its customary role in the lead and once he had established the lead he slowed the pace as best he could, however when THEFIFTHTHOLE progressed to his outside, AUDACIOUS SPIRIT commenced to overrace which resulted in him covering the first section of the race in fast time. J. Byrne stated that he had been instructed to ride his mount in the lead as it had shown a tendency to race waywardly if restrained. J. Byrne stated he was aware of the fast pace but was reluctant to restrain his mount against instructions. Stable representative Mr S. Morrissey confirmed the instructions and reiterated that THEFIFTHHOLE races very waywardly when restrained, and given its racing manners, it must secure the lead to perform at its best. Stewards expressed concern regarding the racing manners of THEFIFTHHOLE, and as in their opinion they had reduced the competitive chances of both THEFIFTHOLE and AUDACIOUS SPIRIT. After receiving an undertaking from Mr Morrissey that the horse would return to provincial racing stewards took no further action other than to advise Mr Morrisey that the horse's racing manners would be monitored at subsequent starts.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          R. Wiggins, rider of CASH 'N' STYLE, was found guilty of a charge under AR118A in that he changed his vest after weighing out. R. Wiggins was fined $200.

Palmer) shifted out around the heels of STONER (K. Fuji) to obtain clear running and in doing so took SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET out on to TASTY TIDBIT, which became unbalanced when tightened for room between that horse and GOLDEN CASH (J. Byrne).

Near the 200m, JUST THE ROCK (J. Hellyer) was held up for clear running in the straight until near the 200m.

An inquiry was adjourned into the reason for SILVER SCHOLAR falling and R. Byrne regarding the riding tactics employed on GOLDEN CASH. J. Byrne explained that he was instructed from the wide barrier to position the horse towards the rear of the field as it was their opinion there was good speed in the race. J. Byrne added that GOLD AND CASH hung out for a major part of the race and proved difficult to ride. Stewards will interview stable representative N. Dunn regarding the apparent change of tactics and also the racing manners of the gelding.
