Race 1 Hamilton Hotel QTIS Handicap (2 Year Old) 1000 Metres
Stewards Report extract : Due to transport difficulties, apprentice B. Evans was unable to fulfil his engagement on MR FAVULOUS and was replaced by J. Taylor when no apprentice rider was available.
MIDNIGHT MINX (G. Colless) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with DANISH WHISKEY (J. Byrne).
WONDERFUL YOU (C. Munce) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with the off side barrier partition.
DAYTIME DAZZLER (R. Hinricks) was inconvenienced shortly after the start by REGENCY ROYALE (M. Cahill), which shifted in slightly.
DAYTIME DAZZLER raced ungenerously in the middle stages and near the 700m shifted in making contact with the hind quarters of ASPY BAY (B. El-Issa).
After passing the 600m, DANISH WHISKEY commenced to hang out and proved difficult to ride rounding the home turn. Trainer L. Birchley was advised that the filly must compete in an official trial prior to its next race start.
In the early part of the straight, WONDERFUL YOU had difficulty obtaining clear running until approaching the 300m.
Passing the 200m, WONDERFUL YOU was obliged to race in restricted room for a short distance when attempting to take a narrow run between REGENCY ROYALE and DAYTIME DAZZLER.
C. McIver reported that GRANZELLA appeared to lose concentration through the middle stages and it was not until he was able to position it wider on the track in the home straight that the horse raced genuinely and finished the race off well.
A post race veterinary examination of LADY MANCHESTER revealed the filly to be exhibiting an abnormal respiratory noise.

Stewards Report extract : After being loaded into the barriers, IVY'S LEAGUE became fractious, was removed from the gates, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.
Approaching the 1600m, LA BELLA LUISA (B. Stewart), which was overracing, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ROYAL REIGN (B. El-Issa), which shifted in. At this stage, CROSS TOWN TRAFFIC (P. Hammersley) also raced fiercely and shifted outwards, placing LA BELLA LUISA at a further inconvenience at the heels of ROYAL REIGN.
ROYAL REIGN overraced in the early stages when racing 3 wide and was then allowed to stride forward to assume the lead near the 1000m. B. El-Issa reported that ROYAL REIGN hung in for the major part of the race.
E. Wilkinson, rider of SUNSHINE ANGEL, reported that approaching the 300m it was apparent to him that ARGENTEUM (J. Taylor) was attempting to shift outwards towards his mount around the heels of LA BELLA LUISA. He added that he stopped riding momentarily and moved SUNSHINE ANGEL wider on the track as he felt it would be a disadvantage if ARGENTEUM came into contact with his mount and he was to lose momentum at that point of the race.
Trainer L. Davies was questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of PRUSSIAN SECRET today. L. Davies explained that the gelding is not at its best when racing on rain affected tracks, which it has done at its last 2 starts, and today appreciated the firm surface.
Stewards sought an explanation from L. Cassidy regarding the performance of IVY'S LEAGUE. L. Cassidy explained that the gelding travelled comfortably until placed under pressure passing the 600m and failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing from that point. L. Cassidy added that, in his view, IVY'S LEAGUE may be best suited when leading in its races. A post race veterinary examination of IVY'S LEAGUE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Stewards inquired into allegations made by apprentice J. Piper that rider B. Stewart made inappropriate comments to her at a point near the 1600m. After taking evidence from the steward in the vicinity and riders, P. Hammersley, rider of CROSS TOWN TRAFFIC, J. Piper, rider of BANN RUBY, and B. Stewart, rider of LA BELLA LUISA, stewards believed there was insufficient evidence to proceed with the matter.

Cassidy), resulting in MR NAPPY being taken across the rightful running of RATTLE 'N' RUN (P. Hammersley), which further resulted in RATTLE 'N' RUN having to be restrained to avoid the heels of MR NAPPY, resulting in RATTLE 'N' RUN becoming unbalanced. J. Piper was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 10 meetings, to commence at midnight, 4 December and to expire at midnight, 18 December.

A post race veterinary examination of MY SWEET COOKIE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer L. Bryant reported that in light of the gelding's performance, he would review the current racing program of MY SWEET COOKIE.

Stewards Report extract : DUAL CHAMBER was declared a late scratching at 3.28 pm when the mare refused to proceed to the barriers. Trainer R. Lipp was advised that DUAL CHAMBER must compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.
Prior to correct weight, P. Hammersley, rider of FLORAMOUR, reported to stewards that his barrier gate was slow to open. After viewing the footage of the start, and acting under the provisions of AR134A, stewards were of the view that FLORAMOUR had been denied a fair start and its chances in the race materially prejudiced, and accordingly, FLORAMOUR was declared a non runner.

Stewards Report extract : The start was delayed when PYRAMIDS became fractious in the barriers. PYRAMIDS was removed from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.
Near the 1000m, HELIDECK (C. Munce) raced up to the outside of LISTEN SON (L. Cassidy), resulting in LISTEN SON commencing to overrace for some distance in the middle stages.
Passing the 350m, PEPPERWOOD (G. Colless) shifted out to improve, taking RIGHTSON (B. Stewart) out on to HELIDECK, which was momentarily inconvenienced when it was weakening.
Stewards sought an explanation from trainer L. Birchley in respect of the improved performance of PEPPERWOOD today. L. Birchley stated that the horse had been gelded prior to embarking on this preparation and, in his opinion, this resulted in the horse reaching race fitness earlier than it has in past preparations. He added that PEPPERWOOD was better suited by the pattern of today's race where there was no pace in the early part of the race.
Stewards sought an explanation from jockey B. Stewart and trainer B Baldwin regarding the disappointing performance of RIGHTSON. B. Stewart stated that whilst he was instructed to lead if possible, he felt that the speed in the early stages was too strong and decided to position the horse just behind the leaders. B. Stewart added that RIGHTSON had been able to lead unchallenged at its most recent starts and this was in stark contrast to the way today's race was run. Trainer B. Baldwin stated that the horse was getting up in the weights and was of the opinion that the horse races best when leading or when positioned to the outside of other runners. B. Near the 1000m, HELIDECK (C. Munce) raced up to the outside of LISTEN SON (L. Cassidy), resulting in LISTEN SON commencing to overrace for some distance in the middle stages.
Passing the 350m, PEPPERWOOD (G. Colless) shifted out to improve, taking RIGHTSON (B. Stewart) out on to HELIDECK, which was momentarily inconvenienced when it was weakening.
Stewards sought an explanation from trainer L. Birchley in respect of the improved performance of PEPPERWOOD today. L. Birchley stated that the horse had been gelded prior to embarking on this preparation and, in his opinion, this resulted in the horse reaching race fitness earlier than it has in past preparations. He added that PEPPERWOOD was better suited by the pattern of today's race where there was no pace in the early part of the race.
Stewards sought an explanation from jockey B. Stewart and trainer B Baldwin regarding the disappointing performance of RIGHTSON. B. Stewart stated that whilst he was instructed to lead if possible, he felt that the speed in the early stages was too strong and decided to position the horse just behind the leaders. B. Stewart added that RIGHTSON had been able to lead unchallenged at its most recent starts and this was in stark contrast to the way today's race was run. Trainer B. Baldwin stated that the horse was getting up in the weights and was of the opinion that the horse races best when leading or when positioned to the outside of other runners. B.
