Stewards Report Extract : SCARLET JO (C. Munce) was slow to begin.
ROCK RULES (E. Wilkinson) overraced in the early stages.
When questioned, R. McMahon reported that he was instructed to ride HAZELDON from a position near the rear of the field, as is its normal racing pattern. However after being trapped wide in the early stages, he considered his best option was to progress forward in an effort to position HAZELDON closer to the fence, the result being that the gelding took the lead near the 1100m.
T. Treichel, rider of the 6th placegetter, FLYING JOHKER, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(b), in that he failed to ride his mount out right to the finish of the race. T. Treichel was fined $200.

Stewards Report Extract : Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce regarding the performance of POOR JUDGE. C. Munce stated that the gelding could not quicken today with the big weight on the heavy track, but, in his view, bearing in mind the circumstances, POOR JUDGE was not entirely disappointing. Trainer N. Hilton agreed with jockey Munce's assessment and explained that in previous campaigns the fitness of POOR JUDGE has improved as it progressed into its preparation. A post race veterinary examination of POOR JUDGE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

DAZZLING KIND (M. Wood) jumped very awkwardly and shifted out, hampering ALL SIGNIFICANT (K. Wharton) and VIKING HEART (E. Wilkinson).
Approaching the 900m, ALL SIGNIFICANT (K. Wharton), when racing in restricted room between VIKING HEART and STAG (R. McMahon), became unbalanced, blundered severely and lost considerable ground. After taking evidence from K. Wharton, rider of ALL SIGNIFICANT, and viewing the available footage of the incident, stewards deemed the incident to be of an accidental nature and as such took no further action. A post race veterinary examination of ALL SIGNIFICANT failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Apprentice M. Hellyer, rider of EASY RUNNING, was issued with a reprimand for allowing his mount to shift out under pressure from the 400m until approaching the 200m, which resulted in JET STAR GIRL (J. Taylor) being taken wider on the track.
J. Taylor, rider of JET STAR GIRL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that passing the 200m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of VORTEX (C. Munce), resulting in VORTEX having to be checked when tightened onto the hind quarters of MASTER OF PUPPETS (B. El-Issa). J. Taylor was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 5 March and to expire at midnight, 16 March.
VIKING HEART raced wide throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation from M. Hellyer regarding the riding tactics employed on EASY RUNNING, which led and set a fast tempo throughout the first half of the race. M. Hellyer explained that he was instructed to lead and if challenged to surrender that position. He conceded that he had erred in the early stages by riding EASY RUNNING too aggressively which resulted in him leading by a considerable distance when the horse overraced and refused to settle through the middle stages. Stewards noted the M. Hellyer's explanation.

Cassidy) and LIFEBUOY (J. Wood), which shifted in after receiving heavy contact from CRAIGLEA FALCON (K. Wharton)
MAROON BELLS (J. Holder) stood flatfooted at the start, losing considerable ground. Trainer J. McLachlan was advised that he would be required to provide a barrier test certificate for MAROON BELLS prior to its next race start.

He added that no sooner had he occupied that position when BORSHA'S WARRIOR, which was overracing, shifted out, taking him wider on the track.

Wilkinson), resulting in LUCKY DUBAI being taken inwards on to EIRE OF MAGIC (Matthew Palmer), which in turn shifted in on to the rightful running of ROTHERA (D. Browne), which as a consequence shifted in on to SHUFFLE THE CASH (C. Munce), which had to be checked when tightened for room between ROTHERA (D. Browne) and the running rail. After hearing submissions from B. El-Issa and taking further evidence from the riders E. Wilkinson, Matthew Palmer and D. Browne, stewards did not proceed with this charge and extended B. El-Issa the benefit of the doubt as to whether he was fully responsible for the incident.
DUAL CHAMBER, SUPERIOR INSTINCT (B. El-Issa), REBOUNDED (M. Radecker) and SIR KINGSFORD (S. Seamer) raced wide throughout.
LYNCEAN ACADEMY (R. McMahon) raced very wide throughout.
Stewards sought an explanation from trainer B. Currie regarding the performance of ROTHERA. Mr Currie explained that ROTHERA races best on rain affected tracks and was also suited by the 1600m distance of today's race and the inside barrier.
When questioned regarding the performance of TEARY EYED, L. Cassidy explained that after being slow to begin and hampered soon after the start, he settled in a rearward position, and due to the slow tempo in the middle stages, TEARY EYED overraced and failed to respond to his riding over the final 400m on the rain affected track.
A post race veterinary examination of FIFTEEN CARAT revealed the gelding had been galloped on on the near hind leg.
