STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT : TAKE COVER (K. Forrester) and COURAGE TATTOO (App S. Munro) were both slow to begin.
ON MOTION (App S. Wiseman) and RIVER DANCING (D. Green) made contact on jumping away.
MACUSHNA (A. Erhart) was buffeted for room in the front straight on the first occasion when racing between CLEATS (App M. Hellyer) and RIVER DANCING, which had a tendency to lay in.
TOPSYND (S. Scriven) blundered when turning out of the straight on the first occasion near the 1800m.
Near the 1500m COURAGE TATTOO improved up onto the heels of STORMY SUMMER (D. Griffin) and had to be steadied.
Approaching the 600m SOL D'ORO (P. Hammersley) had to be steadied off the heels of RIVER DANCING, which shifted out to improve. D. Green the rider of RIVER DANCER was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
CLEATS tired badly over the final 600m of the event.
ON MOTION had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
RIVER DANCING was inclined to hang in under pressure in the straight.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT : CANGAI MAN (G. Colless) shifted out at the start.
Approaching the 800m MAJESTIC EXPRESS (M. Palmer) was crowded for room when racing to the inside of PRECIOUS SHADOW (R. Hancock), which shifted and away from CANGAI MAN.
CANGAI MAN was taken wider rounding the home turn by ALWAYS PERSIANGULF (App N. Yamada) when that horse laid out.
GORGEOUS GOLDIE (App M. Hellyer) had a tendency to lay out under pressure in the straight.
CANGAI MAN raced wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FASCIA L. Cassidy was of the opinion that the filly failed to handle the prevailing track conditions and this combined with the fact the horse was returning from a 4 month spell, were the contributing factors to the horse performing below expectations. A veterinary examination of FASCIA revealed the filly to have poor post race recovery.
CANGAI MAN was examined by the veterinary surgeon after the event however, no abnormalities were detected.

Leaving the 1300m RED BULLET (K. Yoshida), BLAZE TO FORTUNE (J. Bowditch) and HELLUVA HURRY (C. Whiteley) were all crowded for room when racing to the inside of COUSINE ISLAND (App M. Wood), which shifted in. App M. Wood the rider of COUSINE ISLAND was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at that point.
Stewards questioned C. Whiteley the rider of HELLUVA HURRY regarding the riding tactics adopted on that horse in particular his decision not to move the horse to a 3 wide position approaching the 600m prior to BLAZE TO FORTUNE moving up on his outside. It was noted that as a result HELLUVA HURRY was held up for clear running from that point and until approaching the 100m. C. Whiteley stated that whilst HELLUVA HURRY is one paced and he was of the view that the gelding lacked sufficient stamina to race wide from that point. He further stated that his chances in the race were hindered as a result of JUST ELVIS (M. Cahill), the horse he was trailing, running about in the straight thereby hindering his ability to obtain clear running. After considering the matter stewards noted his explanation.
Stewards questioned App M. Wood the rider of COUSINE ISLAND regarding the tactic to lead in today's event which is in contrast to the normal racing pattern of the gelding. App Wood confirmed the instructions given by the trainer were to have the horse in a forward trailing position however, COUSINE ISLAND began well which resulted in the gelding being caught wide. He further stated that as a result he elected to go forward in an endeavour to obtain a position closer to the rail which resulted in the horse obtaining the lead position. App Wood further stated that at this point he attempted to slow the tempo of the race in an endeavour to take a trail however, when no other runner progressed forward he remained in the lead position. Stewards noted the explanation. A post race veterinary examination of COUSINE ISLAND (App M. Wood) failed to reveal any significant findings.

Stewards questioned App B. Wallace and T. McCarthy the trainer of ZEALANDIA regarding the tactics adopted on that horse. After considering explanations from App B. Wallace, T. McCarthy and the apprentice's master J. Wallace stewards found App Wallace guilty under the provisions of AR135(b) in that he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that ZEALANDIA was given full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible place in the field by not positioning ZEALANDIA towards the rail in the early stages of the event when it was reasonable and permissible to do so and after taking the horse to the outside in the early and middle stages he raced the horse wide rather than allow the horse to progress forward to obtain a more favourable position closer to the rail when it was reasonable and permissible to do so. App Wallace's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 3 weeks to commence midnight 21 February 2011 and expire midnight 14 March 2011. Stewards further ordered that App Wallace be referred to the Riding Skills Advisory Panel for further tuition and mentoring.
