Race 1 Attwood Marshall Lawyers Plate (QTIS 3 Year Old Maiden @ Set Weights) 900 Metres
Stewards Report Extract : Correct weight was delayed to give Stewards the opportunity to review the start of the race in relation to App. B Wallace being dislodged from FELON. After taking evidence from App. Wallace, FELON's Trainer Mr B Crowley and the Starter Mr S Andrews, Stewards were of the view that App. Wallace had lost his balance in the saddle and fallen forward prior to the start being effected and as such was out of the saddle and therefore, in accordance with the provisions of AR134, Stewards deemed FELON to be a non-starter. Prior to the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on FELON were ordered to be refunded. All winning bets were ordered to be paid less 10 cents in the dollar for a win and 10 cents for a place on the face value of the ticket.

SECRET MEETING (App. A Kitson) began awkwardly, shifted in making heavy contact with SNAP DRAGONS (R Wiggins) causing that horse to become unbalanced.
WILLIAMS AGENDA (K Forrester) was tightened for room shortly after the start when racing between RAY JOAN (S Scriven) and DENOUEMENT which shifted out.
Approaching the 700m ANGIE'S HEART (A Spinks) had to be steadied off the heels of HIDE 'N' SEEK which shifted in.
Approaching the 600m ANGIE'S HEART and RAY JOAN bumped.
ANGIE'S HEART was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of RAY JOAN, Jockey S Scriven said the horse travelled well in the early and middle stages of the event however, failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure. He further added that he was concerned with the breathing pattern of the horse after the event. Stewards will discuss the post-race recovery and future program of the gelding with the Trainer Mr B Baldwin at a later date.

When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of WEEKEND LIBERTIES (R Wiggins) today compared to its unplaced run at Doomben on 2 March 2011, Jockey R Wiggins stated that he was caught wide in the Doomben race and as a result eased the horse to the rear of the field. He added that at that time the horse was returning from a lengthy spell and benefited from the run and also a recent barrier trial. He further stated that WEEKEND LIBERTIES having drawn an inside barrier today was able to occupy a more forward position particularly the lead, than anticipated. Stewards noted his explanation.
