Stewards Report Extract : PEARL STRAND (T. Treichel) was slow to begin.
KOUNISTRA (A. Spinks) began awkwardly.
OFFSET PRINCE (W. Abbey) began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with JOG ALONG JOEL (R. Wiggins), which in turn shifted out bumping IT'S PRIME TIME (D. Barron).
LUCKY TYCOON (D. Missen) and GOTTA BE GRAND (J.P. Stanley) bumped on jumping away.
GOTTA BE GRAND commenced to hang out from leaving the 700m until entering the straight and then raced greenly in the home straight when placed under pressure.

Stewards Report Extract : GANDY MAY was declared a late scratching at 11.40 a.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice.
Correct weight was delayed to allow N. Thomas the rider of RUSTY TRAWLER to view the finish.
PRIVATE OFFER (A. Spinks) reared and lost ground as the start was effected.
KING BAROO (App B. Wallace) and ELDOSHAR (App A. Kitson) overraced during the early stages of the event.
Leaving the 600m KING BAROO improved up onto the heels of HAWKY (R. Wiggins) and had to be steadied.
Near the 200m SPRING VIOLET (K. Fujii) shifted out when placed under pressure.
WYNNUM WEST (J.P. Stanley) raced wide throughout the event.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ELDOSHAR App A. Kitson stated that her mount travelled well throughout however, when placed under pressure near the 400m the gelding failed to respond to her riding and in her opinion was disappointing. Trainer L. Van Der Sluys stated that in his opinion ELDOSHAR did not handle today's prevailing track conditions and indicated it was his intention to spell the horse. L. Van Der Sluys was also reminded of his obligations under the provisions of AR117(3) not to remove horses from the course without permission prior to an hour after the race.
Stewards questioned D. Griffin regarding the tactics adopted on MANDEHILL today when racing more forward than at its previous start. D. Griffin stated that MANDEHILL had been slow away at its previous start and today connections had instructed him to settle the horse in a handy position. He further stated that after beginning well he was able to obtain the lead without putting any undue pressure on his mount due to the slow early tempo of the race. Stewards noted the comments.

Stewards Report Extract : B. Hull the rider of PALLADIUM was fined the sum of $100.00 for returning to scale in excess of a kilo overweight.
BUSHROAD (K. Fujii) began awkwardly.
SLIPPERYLILSUCKER (N. Thomas) was slow to begin.
Near the 1000m SLIPPERYLILSUCKER was checked when tightened for room by BUSHROAD, which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. AIRWORTHY (A. Spinks) which was following was inconvenienced as a consequence of this incident.
Near the 800m NOTHINLEICACROWNIE (R. Hancock) was inclined to hang in and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of GO THE BLAZE (App B. Wallace).
Near the 300m CLEATS (App A. Butler) shifted in which resulted in FANTASTIC FOUR (D. Griffin) being forced inwards towards GET READY FOR MORE (D. Tanti), resulting in GET READY FOR MORE being tightened for racing room. At a subsequent inquiry App A. Butler and D. Griffin were both advised that they should have stopped riding and straightened their mounts sooner than they had on this occasion.
Approaching the 200m PALLADIUM (B. Hull) shifted out around the heels of SILVER TRUMP (M. Gray) in order to improve and in doing so made heavy contact with BUSHROAD, which became unbalanced. B. Hull was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
A post race veterinary examination of COMAGIC (M. Paget), which raced extremely wide throughout the event, revealed that the horse had sustained a laceration to the side of its mouth.

Stewards Report Extract : Acting on a confirmed telephone call from trainer W. Lawson, ARABIA was declared a late scratching at 12.25 p.m. on veterinary advice.
ANDRE'S CHOICE (R. Wiggins) was slow to begin.
THE PHOENICIAN (D. Missen) began awkwardly and shifted in making contact with PRIMARY COLOUR (D. Griffin).
DIVINE CASH (D. Tanti) raced wide during the early and middle stages of the event.
PRIMARY COLOUR and THE PHOENICIAN both raced wide throughout the event.
A post race veterinary examination of THE PHOENICIAN, which was retired out of the event in the home straight, revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer T. Green was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to THE PHOENICIAN again racing.
A post race veterinary examination of BLAZE TO FORTUNE revealed no significant findings however, trainer C. Halliday undertook to report anything that may come to light in the days subsequent.
Stewards questioned A. Spinks regarding his tactics and the overall performance of MAJESTIC SOUND, in particular the reason for the horse not racing in its normal pattern of establishing a clear lead. A. Spinks stated it was his intention to ride the horse in this manner however, was pressured in the middle stages by both BLAZE TO FORTUNE (App P. Keane) and DIVINE CASH (D. Tanti) and as a result MAJESTIC SOUND was never able to establish a clear lead. A. Spinks further stated he was not completely disappointed with the overall performance of MAJESTIC SOUND as he felt the horse battled on fairly after being under pressure from leaving the 800m. Stewards noted the explanation.
Stewards questioned both App P. Keane (BLAZE TO FORTUNE) and D. Tanti (DIVINE CASH) regarding their tactics in the middle stages, which saw both App Keane and D. Tanti applying pressure to MAJESTIC SOUND, which resulted in a faster tempo during that section. App Keane stated his initial instructions were to race outside the leader however, it was his intention to take a trail on DIVINE CASH when that horse moved up 3 wide but his horse commenced to overrace badly which prevented him from taking this trail. D. Tanti informed stewards that he was riding to instructions in an endeavour to obtain the lead as the horse has a tendency to overrace when positioned with cover. Stewards noted the comments of both riders.
