Stewards Report extract : Stewards will questioned trainer D. Peoples at a later date regarding the late scratching of HEART OF TEXAS .
YANKEE DOLLAR (L. Cheshire) and ZED MAN (R. Hinricks) were slow to begin.
YANKEE DOLLAR fell leaving the 600m. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the filly had broken down in the near fore leg and was euthanased on humane grounds. L. Cheshire, rider of YANKEE DOLLAR was subsequently transported to hospital for medical treatment. Riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
RED ROYAL (D. Griffin) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
ZED MAN raced extremely wide for the majority of the event.

Stewards Report extract : The start of this race was delayed awaiting the arrival of another ambulance to replace the vehicle which had transported L. Cheshire to hospital.
POPPY'S REVENGE (D. Green) began awkwardly and shifted in, making heavy contact with SQUIRTALO (D. Griffin), causing D. Griffin, rider on SQUIRTALO, to become momentarily unbalanced. A short distance later, SQUIRTALO was again cramped for room when racing to the inside of POPPY'S REVENGE (D. Green) and COUNT NEDIYM (J. Taylor), which shifted in.
CERRO RICO (M. Hellyer) began awkwardly and shifted in, making heavy contact with BLEVIC DANCER (J. Holder). A short distance later, CERRO RICO then shifted out and made contact with DESTINY'S DAME (M. Cahill).
Approaching the 1100m, COUNT NEDIYM (J. Taylor) had to be steadied off the heels of POPPY'S REVENGE, which shifted out and away from SQUIRTALO. COUNT NEDIYM then overraced in the middle stages.
A post race veterinary examination of SQUIRTALO, which tired badly over the final 500m, revealed the horse to have a poor recovery rate.
Stewards inquired into the seemingly improved performance of HEY DIDDLEDIDDLE. Trainer S. Smith stated that at its most recent start at Texas on 11 December the horse raced wide throughout the race. He added that he subsequently removed the blinkers from the horse for today's race, which he felt assisted the gelding's chances. He added that HEY DIDDLEDIDDLE had worked well during the week and he was confident of a forward showing. The explanation was noted.

Stewards Report extract : Trainer B. Trimble was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for JUST TAIMED by the prescribed time.
The start was delayed when a gear adjustment was required on MIGHTY MOUNTAIN. The start was further delayed after BEACH MODEL was fractious in the barriers, dislodging its rider. A veterinary examination of BEACH MODEL cleared the mare to race. Trainer R. Milne was advised that a warning was being placed on BEACH MODEL regarding its barrier manners.
Near the 800m, STIGORI (P. Hammersley) was tightened for room when racing to the inside of FANTASTIC BELLA (K. Banks) and MIGHTY MOUNTAIN (K. Forrester). K. Forrester, rider of MIGHTY MOUNTAIN, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at this stage when insufficiently clear.

He explained that he was held up behind GOLDEN KID in the early part of the straight and obliged to alter course to that horse's inside, however became further inconvenienced when GOLDEN KID again shifted ground approaching the 200m. He added that after obtaining clear running, he rode the horse out with his normal vigour, however it responded only fairly. Stewards noted his explanation. A post race veterinary examination of GOLDEN KID revealed the horse had galloped on itself and sustained an abrasion of the near fore heel.
