Missen regarding the performance of ZIP THE LIP. Jockey Missen stated that the horse raced greenly throughout and to hold a position in the early stages he was forced to continually pressure the horse until near the 700m when the horse did travel well for a short period until approaching the 500m when TRUE BLITZ improved to his outside. He stated that when asked for an effort from that point, the horse became unbalanced and did not quicken as he would have liked, however once balanced in the straight was doing its best work over the final 100m, but he was unable to fully test his mount over the concluding stages as the run he had established between ALL THE TORQUE (M. Cahill) and CANGAI MAN (G. Colless) commenced to close. He further added that in his opinion the horse would be better suited when stepped up in distance. D. Missen's comments were noted.

Munce explained that after being slowly away the horse could not keep in touch with the field in the early stages. He indicated that under its 58kg today the horse was coming back in distance from its most recent start over 1500m to the 1200m of today's event and could not regain contact with the field due to the tempo of today's race. C. Munce added that the horse was doing its best work over the concluding stages. Trainer M. Nolan explained that in his opinion the horse may not have appreciated the short back-up for today's event. In response to further questioning regarding his decision to start the horse over 1200m, which is a step back from the 1500m of its most recent start, Mr Nolan explained that in his opinion the horse did not run out a strong 1500m last start (29.1.11) and due to this aspect he was of the view that the horse would be suited better to races over a shorter distance. He added that when nominations for this event closed, it had been advertised as a 1350m race and it was not until runners were declared that he became aware that it was a 1200m event. He further added that after becoming aware of this he elected to proceed with starting in today's event as he felt the horse had done well since its last race. A post-race veterinary examination of ADDICTED TO WEALTH revealed no abnormalities.

CRAIGLEA CANDY (C. Eaton) was tightened for room at the start between DIZZY JOKER (S. Egan) and MISS MILNE BAY (L. Rolls), which shifted out.

Near the 800m CRAIGLEA CANDY, which was racing between EUREKA PEARLS (K. Banks) and SWEET SWEET LOVE (T. Fujinuma), commenced to race with its head in the air and shifted out when restrained. Shortly after this SWEET SWEET LOVE shifted in further hampering CRAIGLEA CANDY, which resulted in CRAIGLEA CANDY being checked and losing ground. Under the circumstances, given the racing manners of CRAIGLEA CANDY, stewards advised apprentice T. Fujinuma to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Near the 700m CRAIGLEA CANDY improved on to the heels of SWEET SWEET LOVE and had to be steadied.

SWEET SWEET LOVE, CRAIGLEA CANDY and TIZZY LIZZY (J. Byrne) raced wide for the majority of the event.

DIZZY JOKER hung out rounding the home turn. EUREKA PEARLS, which was following, was forced to steady when attempting a tight run to the outside of that mare and to the inside of SWEET SWEET LOVE. A post-race veterinary examination of DIZZY JOKER revealed the mare to be suffering mild heat stress. Trainer W. Nugent was advised that a warning was being placed on the mare's racing manners.

Near the 200m EUREKA PEARLS was again inconvenienced and forced to shift out when DIZZY JOKER shifted out under pressure. Apprentice S. Egan, the rider of DIZZY JOKER, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Stewards questioned P. Wolfgram, the rider of FORBIDDEN DRAGON, regarding his tactics in the early stages of the race. Jockey Wolfgram stated that his instructions were to obtain cover mid-field if possible, however during the early stages when positioned wide on the track, he elected to restrain back to the tail of the field as he had been unable to secure a mid-field position nearer the rails. He added that whilst the horse had shown pace in a recent barrier trial, it did not finish the trial off strongly when ridden in this fashion. P. Wolfgram added that given the horse's inexperience it finished the race off reasonably well today.

Lipp regarding the tactics adopted on AMBER ALE, particularly the reasons for AMBER ALE leading in today's event which was in contrast to its past two starts. Mr Lipp advised stewards that it had been the intention to race in a forward position at the horse's most recent starts, however after suffering interference at its most recent start at the Gold Coast on 22 January and after being slow to begin on 19 June 2010 at Ipswich, these instructions could not be carried out on those occasions. Stewards noted the explanation.

MASTER KWILA (D. STROMBO (J. AUSSIE AGENDA (J. Stanley), which raced greenly in the early stages, shifted wider near the 800m and hung out badly from that point onwards. A post-race veterinary examination of AUSSIE AGENDA revealed no abnormalities. Trainer L. Kelly advised stewards of his intention to experiment with gear changes on the gelding and with that in mind stewards advised Mr Kelly that a warning would be placed on the horse's racing manners.

Ainsworth was advised that as this was the first time the mare had bled, it would incur a mandatory 3-month bar from racing under AR. 53A(4) and must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward before racing again.

Trainer B. Baker, the trainer of RUBYELSIE, which stood flat-footed at the start and as a result took no competitive part in the event, advised stewards of his intention to spell the mare following today's performance. Stewards advised Mr Baker that following this spell RUBYELSIE would be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial prior to its next start.

When the pace slackened leaving the 800m SNIP 'N' DUCK (P. Schmidt) improved on to the heels of MYSTIC MINT (D. Tanti), and had to be steadied.

Near the 700m FEARTHEDAWN (L. Rolls), which shifted in to take up a position behind DAWN RISING (D. Griffin), was then forced to steady from that mare's heels.

Stewards questioned C. Munce regarding the performance of CARNEY PLACE, which finished tailed off. Jockey Munce stated that during the early stages of the event the gelding, in his opinion, raced greenly and was not comfortable racing to the inside of other runners and failed to respond to his riding from the 500m. Jockey Munce further added that he recommended the addition of blinkers for the horse's next start. Trainer B. Purcell agreed with jockey Munce's assessment and advised stewards that he would experiment with the horse's gear prior to its next start. Mr Purcell also indicated that today's performance was the horse's first start on a firm surface and this may also have contributed to the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of CARNEY PLACE (C. Munce) revealed no abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of PRINCE OF FREEZE (K. Ashton), which compounded badly from the 700m and finished a distant last, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer F. Mills was advised that the nomination of PRINCE OF FREEZE will be refused at TAB venues until the horse's form improves at non-TAB venues.

Stewards questioned M. Cahill, the rider of BAROQUE PEARL, regarding his riding of that mare, particularly the reasons for him positioning the horse in the second half of the field. M. Cahill stated that at the mare's most recent start she had been ridden more quietly and from the wide alley today he had been instructed to ride the horse quietly and to avoid being caught wide if possible. He stated that near the 700m he was able to shift out and improve with cover behind LA VIE ESPRIT and he was of the opinion that despite being forced to shift very wide to improve into the race when rounding the home turn, the mare finished the race off well.
