Stewards Report Extract : Trainer B. Hill advised that SOL D'ORO would be ridden in a more forward position today. The horse was ridden accordingly.
SOL D'ORO (T. Harrison) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with LE TOUR DE FRANCE (K. Wharton).
LITTLE FLICKER (E. Kehoe) jumped outwards at the start and made contact with RIVER DANCING (D. Green).
Shortly after the start, SOL D'ORO (T. Harrison) again shifted out, making contact with LE TOUR DE FRANCE, which in turn shifted out, making contact with FROM THE SHADOWS (C. Priest).
When the pace slowed near the 1200m, both NEYTIRI (R. McMahon) and LE TOUR DE FRANCE shifted wider on the track to improve.
Near the 200m, MACUSHNA (A. Erhart) was struck over the head by the whip of K. Wharton, rider of LE TOUR DE FRANCE.
When questioned regarding the poor performance of LALOR, trainer B. Russell advised stewards that he would now give consideration to retiring the gelding from racing after it finished tailed off. Stewards nevertheless advised Mr Russell that should he continue with the gelding's preparation that its nomination at TAB meetings would be refused until such time as LALOR showed improvement at country meetings.

Stewards Report Extract : MAGINNIS MAGEE (G. Colless) and SNAPPY QUEST (M. Hellyer) were slow to begin.
Stewards adjourned an inquiry to a date to be fixed into the reason for JACKWOOD (E. Kehoe) and EDZACCERI (B. Stewart) falling leaving the 900m and dislodging their respective riders. As a result of injuries received by EDZACCERI, the horse was euthanased on humane grounds.
MAGINNIS MAGEE, DESERT SESSIONS (J. Holder) and SNAPPY QUEST (M. Hellyer) were all severely checked as a consequence of this incident, and subsequently, MAGINNIS MAGEE and SNAPPY QUEST took no competitive part in the race.
Subsequently, B. Stewart and E. Kehoe was examined by the ambulance officers, with B. Stewart cleared of any serious injury, and E. Kehoe transported to Ipswich Hospital for further observation.
A post race veterinary examination of JACKWOOD revealed the horse to be showing signs of blood in one nostril. This was attributed to trauma and no action was taken.

Following this race, stewards heard from a deputation of riders outlining their concerns regarding the prevailing conditions and subsequently following a further track inspection, in particular the track surface near the 900m, which was deemed unsuitable for racing due to damage by the fallen horses, the remaining races were abandoned.
