Stewards Report Extract : A pre-race veterinary examination of DENS ERA (K. Wharton), which was fractious in its tie-up stall, cleared the filly to start.
The start was delayed when DENS ERA proved difficult to load. Trainer R. Bradshaw was advised that the filly must officially trial to stewards' satisfaction before being permitted to race again.
RUN AWAY RUBY (R. McMahon) and BLACK BANNER (A. Spinks) were slow to begin.
TAKOTNA (J. Stanley) jumped out at the start making contact with SPURTASTIC (Michael Palmer), which in turn shifted out making contact with HUSHOVD (P. Hammersley), which began awkwardly.
Approaching the 800m TAKOTNA commenced to overrace for a short distance and threw its head in the air.
HUSHOVD, which raced greenly throughout the event, hung in under pressure over the concluding stages, making contact with CALLAN PARK (D. Browne).
Near the finish line RUN AWAY RUBY shifted out under pressure and brushed CALLAN PARK.

Stewards Report Extract : MISS REED (L. Rolls) and ARIZONA SUNSET (M. Radecker) were slow to begin.
HANDSOME (E. Wilkinson) was inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages.
SLEPNER (T. Huxham) shifted wider on the track leaving the 800m and raced wide from that point on.
Stewards questioned M. Radecker regarding her tactics on ARIZONA SUNSET which after missing the start raced three wide throughout before tiring over the concluding stages. M. Radecker explained that after the horse had missed the start she elected to ride forward in an effort to gain a position in the running line with cover, however was unable to take up a position nearer the rails and subsequently was obliged to race three wide without cover for the entire event. M. Radecker explained that ARIZONA SUNSET races best when over more ground than today's race, however felt that the horse would take improvement in that it was having its third start this campaign. After considering her explanation, stewards advised M. Radecker that in their opinion her ride on ARIZONA SUNSET lacked initiative and it was expected that she would show a better standard of judgment in the future.

Stewards Report Extract : Trainer D. Hansen was fined $100 under LR. 67 for failing to declare D. Griffin as the rider of GRAND HOMME by the prescribed time.
As M. Speers was unable to fulfil his engagement on TOYHERO as a result of injury, he was replaced by M. Radecker.
Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer C. Jordan in respect of R. McMahon being declared as the rider of GAZE ON when D. Griffin had been engaged to ride that gelding.
Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer R. Nicholson regarding J. Byrne being declared as the rider of AREA FIFTYONE when M. Heagney had been engaged to ride that gelding.
Trainer R. Heathcote advised stewards that following its disappointing run last start, LUCASAM (R. McMahon) had trialled well and it will be the intention to have the gelding ridden aggressively from the barriers today.
LUCASAM, which was late to arrive on course, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Stewards will convene an inquiry at a time and date to be fixed to allow trainer R. Heathcote to be present to provide evidence regarding LUCASAM's late arrival on course.

A post-race veterinary examination of COUNT IGLESIA, which finished tailed off, revealed the horse to be lame in the off hind leg and that it had lost its off fore plate during running. Trainer G. Moon was advised that he must obtain a veterinary clearance before COUNT IGLESIA would be permitted to race again.
HI JO SILVER lost both front plates in running.
A post-race swab sample was taken from LUCASAM.

The start was delayed some considerable time when TIT TAT TOOEE (J. Stanley) was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Upon arriving at the barriers, the saddle on that runner had shifted, necessitating TIT TAT TOOEE being resaddled. Trainer P. Duff was advised that a warning would be placed on the manners of TIT TAT TOOEE.
The start was further delayed when the saddle on LAUGHING CRUSADER (C. Priest) shifted en route to the barriers, resulting in that horse also having to be resaddled.

Leaving the 400m LAUGHING CRUSADER commenced to hang in when placed under pressure and shifted in near the 300m causing its rider to stop riding and straighten her mount.
When questioned into the improved performance of LAUGHING CRUSADER, trainer R. Wilson explained that the horse had met with interference when racing at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday, 6 February and as a result of this raced greenly at its next run on Sunday, 20 February. Mr Wilson explained that he was not disappointed with those two runs under the circumstances and added that the horse had pleased him in its track work leading up to today's event and he expected the horse to maintain its current form. Mair concurred with jockey Munce's assessment. A post-race veterinary examination of BUCKS POINT revealed no abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of FROM LONDON revealed the horse to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that FROM LONDON must perform a 1000m gallop to the satisfaction of the stewards, with the results of an ECG to be supplied to stewards, prior to the horse being permitted to race again.
