Stewards Report Extract : OUR DUCHESS (G. Colless) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground, making contact with the hind quarters of BOOBOISIE (Matthew Palmer).
GOLD SHEARS (C. Munce) was hampered on jumping away between BOOBOISIE (Matthew Palmer) and MARIA ROSA (D. Browne), which shifted in.
IGLESIA GRACE (M. Radecker) raced wide throughout.
For some distance after passing the 600m, MARIA ROSA (D. Browne) was held up and unable to improve when racing behind OUR DUCHESS when that runner commenced to weaken.
G. Colless advised that OUR DUCHESS appeared to slip behind at the start and did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race. He further added that OUR DUCHESS was under pressure from the 600m and was disappointing in the run to the line. A post-race veterinary examination of OUR DUCHESS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer's representative Mr Thomson confirmed his disappointment in the performance and undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which may come to light which may have had some bearing on the performance.

G. Colless, rider of FOREST DOLL, which performed below expectations, explained that the filly overraced in the early stages and was then pressured in the lead by LOVE THAT CHICK (R. Hancock) and PRECIOUS GIRL in the middle stages. He added that when placed under pressure, FOREST DOLL failed to respond to his riding passing the 300m and weakened from that point. A post-race veterinary examination of FOREST DOLL failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Stewards questioned R. Hancock regarding the riding tactics he employed on LOVE THAT CHICK, which was ridden forward in the early stages to be positioned outside the leader FOREST DOLL, and when challenged by PRECIOUS GIRL (M. Gray) near the 800m, particularly the reason for him riding forward to maintain the position outside the leader and setting a fast tempo through the middle part of the race. R. Hancock explained that after riding with some vigour in the early stages he was able to cross the field reasonably easily. He added that in hindsight it would have been a better option to surrender the position outside the leader after passing the 800m and allow PRECIOUS GIRL to cross his mount. Stewards agreed with R. Hancock that he had erred at that point of the race by not restraining his mount and obtaining cover on the back of PRECIOUS GIRL, which would have resulted in him having a favourable position with cover. Stewards did not feel that R. Hancock's riding of LOVE THAT CHICK was so unreasonable as to be culpable under the rules.

Trainer Mr G. Marshall confirmed the instructions, adding that VALDISANO may be better suited on the cushion track surface. Stewards noted the explanations.
