Race 1 Dicky Beach Supporters Club Handicap (Maiden) 1800 Metres
Stewards Report extract : SUNTIME (K. Wharton) overraced for a short distance near the 1200m.
On a number of occasions in the straight SUNTIME raced in restricted room to the inside of VATIC LAD (E. Wilkinson), which shifted in.
Stewards questioned apprentice K. Gates and trainer H. Dew regarding the tactics adopted on TARMAC, which led at its most recent start. Apprentice Gates stated that as TARMAC had overraced with her on that occasion, she elected to take hold in an attempt to avoid having the horse overrace in today's event. She was of the view that in hindsight she may have been better served allowing the horse to settle in the lead. Trainer H. Dew advised stewards of his instructions to ride TARMAC forward in today's event and was not disappointed with the performance.
Trainer M. Eggleston reported that BOTH, which laid in under pressure in the straight, was found to have a minor laceration to the off fore pastern.

Stewards Report extract : ISLAND TYCOON was a late scratching at 10.30 a.m. on veterinary advice. Trainer S. Barling was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for ISLAND TYCOON before its next start.
When questioned regarding the performance of BEJEKA, R. Wiggins stated that in his opinion the horse travelled fairly throughout the event, however did not respond well when placed under pressure leaving the 800m and did not finish the race off well. He added that in his opinion the horse may not have handled the step up to the 2200m of today's event.
M. Cahill, the rider of STARLET O'HARA, was fined $100 under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip in excess of five occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.

Shortly after the start MADAM CONI (L. Cassidy) had to be steadied when tightened for room between CLEAR DROP (O. Turpin) and NICKIERA (J. Byrne), which shifted in.
PINCH HITTER (M. Heagney) overraced during the early stages and at a point near the 1200m improved on to the heels of ST ORIENTAIR and had to be steadied. Shortly after this PINCH HITTER shifted out, forcing SHEOAK AVENUE (M. Hellyer) to be steadied.
After being caught wide during the early stages, J. Byrne elected to allow NICKIERA to stride forward to sit outside the leader at a point near the 800m.
SIR LISTER (C. Munce) raced wide throughout.
ASTOUNDING (M. Cahill) was held up and unable to improve from approaching the 600m until leaving the 500m.
Near the 300m CLEAR DROP, after being momentarily held up for clear running, shifted out and in doing so inconvenienced PINCH HITTER.
A post-race veterinary examination of ASTOUNDING revealed the horse had sustained lacerations to the near hind inside heel and off hind lateral cannon, consistent with being galloped on.
Stewards questioned T. Bita, the trainer of SIR LISTER, regarding the seemingly improved performance of that gelding. Mr Bita stated that the horse was coming down in class from its most recent two starts and was of the opinion that the horse is suited to today's race distance of 1600m. He further stated that in his opinion at the horse's most recent start at Gold Coast on 6 November SIR LISTER had performed well, and at its start prior to that at Eagle Farm on 27 October it had met with interference which would explain the poor performance on that occasion. Stewards noted the explanation.

He added that after beginning well he pressured the horse for a number of strides, however was of the opinion that he did not have enough early speed to cross the two runners to his inside and as a result he elected to steady and shift across behind those runners to a position on the fence. He further stated that at a point near the 800m he was obliged to push the horse forward to improve into a position to the inside of SWEET DRAGON and he then commenced placing the horse under pressure near the 500m. He added that in the early stages of the straight the gelding was inclined to shift out under pressure and again raced greenly near the 200m in that the gelding shifted in and away from EN PISTE which shifted in. He further stated that the horse finished the race off well and would be better suited to races over more distance. His comments were noted.
