After an inspection of the course proper at 6 am this morning, due to the heavy conditions of the track and further forecast of rain, the decision was made to transfer today's meeting to the cushion track and the following race distances were amended as follows. Race 4. 1800m to 2000m; Race 5. 1200m to 1100m; Race 6. 2200m to 2150m; Race 7. 1200m to 1100m.
As B. Stewart, S. Wiseman and E. Kehoe were indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Stewards Report Extract : LIKE A GEE SIX (E. Wilkinson) was slow to begin.
CURRAWEE LASS (M. Hellyer) was hampered at the start when tightened for room between FASCIA (C. Munce), which shifted out, and CRAZY MAMMA (C. Whiteley), which after jumping away awkwardly, shifted in.
Shortly after the start, PYM'S LANE (G. Colless) and MONJAYA BOY (A. Spinks) made heavy contact when tightened for room between JUNABEE ROSE (Mathew Palmer), which shifted out, and FALISATY (T. Huxham), which shifted in.
Approaching the 600m, MONJAYA BOY shifted out away from JUNABEE ROSE, resulting in PYM'S LANE being inconvenienced and taken wider on the track.
When questioned regarding the performance of CRAZY MAMMA, C. Whiteley explained that after beginning awkwardly he settled at the rear of the field, and elected to save ground to the inside rounding the home turn. He added that the filly did not feel entirely comfortable on today's surface.
Stewards also questioned G. Colless as to the performance of PYM'S LANE. He stated that he was instructed to ride the filly in a forward position, however after being inconvenienced at the start, his mount was unable to muster speed to cross the field and as a result was obliged to race wide throughout which, in his opinion, was a telling factor in the filly's performance today.

Spinks stated that he was instructed to go forward from the wide barrier today, and after racing wide in the early stages he elected to take the mare to the lead near the 1300m and then travelled comfortably in that position, however SHEZA HERO did not quicken as expected when placed under pressure in the home straight. A. Spinks added that, in his opinion, the mare may not run out a strong 1600m and could be better suited in future ridden with cover.

Stewards Report Extract : JIMMY CRACKCORN was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 8.33 am. After taking initial evidence from trainer G. Hutchesson, stewards will further investigate the circumstances surrounding the late scratching.
Prior to the race, trainer P. Stokes advised stewards that MAJESTIC QUEST would be ridden in a forward position today if circumstances permit. The horse subsequently race wide in a midfield position.
Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view the footage of the start of the race to ascertain whether ANALIN STAR (D. Missen) had been afforded a fair start. After viewing this it was established that ANALIN STAR became very fractious when the start was effected, which resulted in D. Missen becoming unbalanced and dislodged soon after. Stewards were satisfied that ANALIN STAR had been afforded a fair start. Trainer G. Moon was advised that he must provide 2 further barrier certificates for ANALIN STAR prior to its next race start.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by T. Huxham, rider of the 2nd placegetter, RUSTY TRAWLER, against EAT MORE DUST (J. Holder), being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 300m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and from their own observations, stewards were of the view that T. Huxham was attempting to obtain clear running to the outside of the heels of SUNDAY BELLE (E. Wilkinson) and as a result made contact with EAT MORE DUST. As stewards were of the view that RUSTY TRAWLER had not obtained clear running at this stage, they dismissed the protest and gave correct weight on the Judge's placings.
Near the 1600m, WINNING MOMENTS (K. Forrester) was bumped heavily by the riderless ANALIN STAR and severely hampered.
Approaching the 600m, DESTINY PREVAILS (G. Colless) broke down and was retired from the race. A post-race veterinary examination of DESTINY PREVAILS revealed the mare had sustained an injury to the near fore fetlock. Trainer R. Faithful will be advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for DESTINY PREVAILS prior to its next race start.

Subsequent to the event all monies invested on BIKINSKY were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 23 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 18 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer S. McCarthy was advised that he must provide 2 further barrier certificates for BIKINSKY prior to its next race start.

He further advised that BAYONET CHARGE had pleased him in an official trial at the Sunshine Coast on 22 February and had since done well in its trackwork leading up to today's race. The explanation was noted.

As per the Stewards report above Bikinsky caused some mayhem before the start of Race 5. The pictures below show a "naked" Bikinsky going past the post. After doing a u turn the Grey was then pursued by the Clerk Of The Course. The remaining photos show Bikinsky finally apprehended being led back to safety and a disgruntled Chris Munce returning to the enclosure.

Whiteley) commenced to overrace and had to be restrained to avoid the heels of IRISHKIWI (E. Wilkinson) for some distance. MOONAN KATHLEEN (S. Galloway), which was following, had to be checked off the heels of SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET.
Approaching the home turn, KING DEMONIC (C. Priest) was held up behind the heels of MOONAN KATHLEEN, which was weakening.
SUBCULTURE (J. Holder), DELTARARA, and MORE ON THE TOE (N. Thomas) raced wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of MOONAN KATHLEEN, which weakened badly in the home straight, revealed the horse to be lame both forelegs. Trainer T. Bailey will be advised that he must obtain a veterinary clearance prior to the horse being permitted to race or trial again.
Following the running of the race, stewards considered an official complaint lodged by Ms J. Melvin, part-owner of RED TSAR, regarding the riding of that gelding by apprentice M. Speers. Ms Melvin stated that she was concerned with the amount of vigour apprentice Speers used on RED TSAR and his failure to improve to the outside after rounding the home turn and into the straight. Apprentice Speers explained that RED TSAR began well but could not muster speed in the early stages, and near the 600m he rode the gelding aggressively but it did not respond to his riding to improve. M. Speers added that RED TSAR was not travelling well enough rounding the home turn to move to the outside and follow MORE ON THE TOE, so he elected to remain closer to the fence and attempt to save ground. Stewards were of the view that apprentice Speers did fully test RED TSAR from the 600m and did not have concerns with his handling of the gelding.

Stewards Report Extract : LOVE THAT CHICK (R. Hancock) was slow to begin.
SHREWD HOSTESS (K. Forrester) knuckled over shortly after the start.
Near the 700m, LOVE THAT CHICK (R. Hancock) improved into the race between PRECIOUIS GIRL (M. Gray) and WILLHAVEAHUNDRED (N. Tomizawa) where there was insufficient room and had to be checked. R. Hancock, rider of LOVE THAT CHICK, was advised to ensure that when attempting runs that there is sufficient room to do so.
Apprentice J. Kropp, rider of HI JO SILVER, which performed below expectations, explained that the gelding travelled well in the lead although he did receive some pressure in the middle stages from LAGOMAR and after entering the home straight failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Trainer T. Miller was also disappointed with the performance of HI JO SILVER undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which may come to light which may have had some bearing on the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of HI JO SILVER failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
On return to scale, C. Munce reported that LAGOMAR hung out for the entire race and proved difficult to ride. As a result, LAGOMAR raced extremely wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of LAGOMAR failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer L. Gough was advised that LAGOMAR must trial in an official trial prior to its next race start.
