On jumping RESONATING (K. Forrester) began awkwardly.
Apprentice M. O'Brien, the rider of STREET SIGN, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) of using the whip in a forehand manner in excess of 5 occasions prior to the 100m and was fined $200.

Stewards accepted trainer R. Hawkswell's explanation as to why N. Evans was declared as the rider of CONVICTOR and then replaced by K. Yoshida.
TITANIUM ROCK (A. Best) began awkwardly.
I'LL RULE (A.Taylor) was slow to begin.
On straightening COZ HE WANTS TO (P. Wolfgram), which was giving ground, was eased slightly between I'LL RULE and SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET (R. Goltz), which shifted out slightly.
When questioned regarding the performance of DULBYDILLA, apprentice T. Fujinuma explained his intentions tonight were to lead, however in the early stages of the event he was unable to do so due to the early speed shown by CONVICTOR (K. Yoshida). He said he enjoyed a nice run behind that horse throughout, however when the leader quickened from the 600m, his mount was unable to quicken and began to give ground after this. A post-race veterinary examination of DULBYDILLA revealed the gelding to be slightly sore in the near foreleg. Trainer J. Thomas was of the view that DULBYDILLA had tied up slightly and advised that it was now his intention to spell the horse. Acting on this assurance, no further action was taken.

Whilst parading, GREYS A ROCKIN (P. Wolfgram) dislodged its rider and cantered for approximately half a circuit before being recaptured. GREYS A ROCKIN was examined at the barriers by the veterinary surgeon who deemed the horse was suitable to race.
EAT MORE DUST (K. Forrester) was slow to begin.
FIBRE KING (A.Taylor) began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped BACKUP PLAN (D. Sparks).
Making the turn near the 1550m AREA FIFTYONE (N. Yamada) shifted ground, obliging COUNT ROMANO to race wider.
Near the 600m MISS TRISH (B. Abbey) was inconvenienced to avoid FIBRE KING which was giving ground quickly. As a result of this STARBURST (A. Best) was bumped and became awkward on the heels of COUNT ROMANO (M. O'Brien).

Sparks, the rider of BACKUP PLAN, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) of using the whip in a forehand manner in excess of 5 occasions prior to the 100m and his licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 5 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday, 2 April, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 10 April 2011. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account that D. Sparks had previously incurred a suspension for a breach of the same rule.
